With The Lion King remake becoming the highest grossing animated film of all time, I figured since I don't think the film deserves it, I'd like to turn the spotlight on more beloved animated films. Some of my favorite animated films are (in no particular order):

Beauty and the Beast
Fantasia
The Lion King
The Little Mermaid
Aladdin

Finding Nemo

I have a love of animated films, especially traditional 2D animation. Some of my own favourites are:

Balto
The Land Before Time (the original, not the sequels)
Aladdin
The Little Mermaid
The Lion King
An American Tail
Brother Bear
Anastasia
Robin Hood
Princess Mononoke
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
Titan AE
The Prince of Egypt

And, although not a movie, it was generation-defining for anyone growing up in the UK in the early 1990s:

I do like a good animated film, but unfortunately I've had to sit through some right crap in the past few years (*cough* Minions *cough*). I don't really have a preference between 2D and 3D but I do think the new generation of animated films (from 1989 onwards) have realised that they should really cater for adults as well. As for some of my personal favourites, here goes...

* I know this movie isn't the greatest but it made the list because it changed my life. This is the movie that single-handily got seven-year old me interested in dinosaurs (a subject which I previously hadn't had much interest in). Now, as some of you may of noticed, dinosaurs are a tremendous part of my life. That is why I'll always defend dinosaur movies, even the bad ones, because there's a chance they will change a little kid's life like this one did one for me.

Well said, even if some dino movies *cough* JP3 *cough* The Good Dinosaur *cough* are pretty indefensible in my opinion! ;)

I understand your stance on Dinosaur, but don't you think it's kinda hilarious how inaccurate it is (dinosaurs and lemurs living in the same time period)? Also, I think it's kinda interesting that The Lion King is the oldest film on your list. Does most 20th Century animation lack a certain spark for you?

Indeed I did. Twice actually. I suppose I enjoyed the combination of adult and really childish humor. Plus you could technically argue it's a dinosaur movie.

I've become accustomed to Hollywood getting prehistoric life wrong. But the way I see, its the film industry's job to get people interested in dinosaurs, but then it's up to the paleontologists and paleo-nerds to accurately educate these people. Do I wish Hollywood was at least a little more accurate and made our jobs a little easier? Heck yes. But at the end of the day these are movies, not documentaries. Trust me if I wanted to I could pick apart that movie and show you hundreds of inaccuracies that go far beyond lemurs and dinosaurs coexisting.

No, I still very much like 1900s animations. It's just I don't think many of them would qualify as one of my favorites.

Also, when making my list I completely forgot about the Lego movies, in which case The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie would make my list. Ninjago was meh and I haven't seen The Lego Movie 2. I also like the Spongebob movies.

Oh! I forgot to mention the whole Kung fu Panda trilogy. All three movies are great (the second being my favorite) and most of the characters are amazing.

Everything in those films except for the humans are animated - that's why I don't like it when people call it the "Live-action Lion King" when not one part of the movie was actually filmed.
