@devilfish judging by the state of the building site would you expect the new African Elephant enclosure to be completed within the next year? Also do you know if more African Elephants will be arriving at West Midlands Safari Park,to Join Five,Latebe
A 7-year old male elephant is hardly breeding age material. An adult bull would normally be in the 22-34 range. So, if and when the intention is to breed with Sutton we can have a darn long wait for that. Further, I cannot see the camels at Beauval coming back any time soon. I am more than convinced they are to stay in France for further breeding. Why export again back to the UK for breeding where this has been the intention at Beauval from the outset (and BTW WSMP has not exactly made any great efforts in breeding from their breeding age females once initial calves had been produced. I do think they missed a huge and big opportunity there.@devilfishAlso regarding Sutton the son of Five do you know if there any plans to move him to become a breeding Bull. I say this as Sutton is now about seven years old and probably sexually mature. As the African Elephant is a criticality endangered species I am surprised that West Midlands have allowed Sutton to remain in a non breeding heard for this long. Take Jambo the Elephant born at Colchester Zoo for example,Jambo moved on when he was half the age that Sutton is now.

@Kifaru Bwana I think you meant to type I cannot see the Cowes at Beaval coming back any time soon. However a typo meant that you accidentally said I cannot see the camels at Beauval coming back any time soon.A 7-year old male elephant is hardly breeding age material. @Kifaru Bwana I apologise for bringing this typo to your attention!

Visited wmsp today and some major changes over quarantine . The safari park is now in a different driving order. Multiple new gates with the new African grassland gate where it loops around a new giraffe enclosure. The new elephant enclosure seems to massive with it taking over the old giraffe and ankloe cattle paddock (as you exit the camels) with gemsbok now off site along with addax. Less white tigers and hippos this time after multiple loops. However all over the safari appears to making some major changes improving both visitor experience and animal welfare
Are they planning on getting a breeding herd of elephants? Also what are their plans on white lions are they being phased out as well. It is good that they are planning on phasing out the white tigers as it leaves ample space for the breeding the Sumatrans.
Ye they are getting a breeding herd with Sutton becoming the breeding male(this was at 2019 summer)
Around that time it was also planned to renovate and overhaul the reptile house, now I believe it's to close it and get rid of herps, on ground of what it costs to keep them.
@Zia can you please can you tell me what the new plan regarding the African Elephant’s is? I’m delighted that West Midlands Safari Park are retaining thier Elle’s. I love seeing Elephants both African and Asian in Zoos. About 6 or 7 years ago now I saw the Hi-Way family at Chester Zoo,it was lovely to see Elephants. I’m very sad that Elephants are being phased out of England’s animal collections. I truly hope that the new Elephant enclosures built at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm,Blackpool Zoo,Whipsnade Zoo,Longleat Safari Park and now West Midlands Safari Park is the start of Elephants returning to English animal collections. I wonder if West Midlands will have the famous Jambo who was born at Colchester as thier breeding Bull. I know that Bioparc Valencia where Jambo resides have not had any breeding success from him. Jambo is the sole of his Mum Rosa. As for his Dad Tembo he is one of only two alive sons. Due to this Jambo will be a highly important Bull Elephant. I know that Colchester themselves were hoping to welcome Jambo back or if not him his sperm for AI. I don’t know if this is still the plan, I would be grateful for any updates. Is it confirmed that the plan regarding elephants has also changed?

For once a series answer to your question although I don't know why because last time you didn't believe me, and thanked the person that gave you a wrong answer. I actually have no idea if the plan has changed, I posted because things aren't always set in stone, and with newish owners in charge what was a plan can change if they don't like it, all you need to do is read the comments about the reptile house, to see its only a matter of time, before it is gone from the park.
I only saw 2 but i know there's an off show paddockhi how many white tigers did you see on your visit. there were 5 last i went. please[/QUOTE
