Animals You've Seen That Few Zoochatters Have Seen

Rescue centers and roadside zoos often have them. The only city zoos I’ve seen them at were in Japan.

Yeah, due to being accessible in certain corners of the private trade, surrenders to (or purchases for) roadside zoos are the only time I've seen rhesus macaques mentioned outside of rescues and labs. Just did a quick trawl through zoochat and the only immediate location I can find is, uh, severely lacking.

Regarding Rhesus, about ~30 places have them, including sanctuaries that give tours and whatnot. None are AZA, or remotely reputable places.

Thick-billed murre and parakeet auklet come to mind from my home zoo. I’m so used to them that I forget that the zoo is the only place to see them in captivity.

I didn't know there were any Thick-bills in capivity. I've seen wild Thick-billed Murre a couple times.

They have had them since the exhibit was built in the 90’s. Those same birds are still alive, but getting up there in age. The zoo has only 4 or 5 left I believe.

How many ZooChatters have seen Sabine's Gull? I saw one for the first time a few days ago (a wild vagrant).

Was that the individual at Hale? Cracking bird to see! By no means my First Sabine’s. Anyone else seen Olrog’s Gull? Or Pallas’s (aka Great Black-headed)? Ivory? Ross’s?

Those monkeys deserve to live in AZA-level exhibits. Especially my favorite, the Booted Macaque.
The only zoo outside of their native range is Catoctin Wildlife Preserve & Zoo, which I'm really tempted to visit, although it's pretty far away from me.

Some less-than-reputable places have them, and a primate sanctuary in Texas recently rescued three.

I saw African pale fox yesterday at animal adventures, I think only a handful of zoochatters have seen them before
