Damian Aspinall: You all know my views on zoos prove me wrong

I just think we need to move on and not have animals to entertain people anymore

You presumably derive no entertainment from literally playing with your animals then.....

Appreciate your comments but you assume that you can't release these animals but people are finding out all the time now that you can release these animals secondly i do believe it would of been possible to protect a small area in the wild with these animals rather than stuck in zoos
But surely you can get more from corporation between zoos? Like the Javan Rhino is hold onto ~60 individuals because of the capacity in the centre. We could get more if we have zoos conservation before its too late.

Chytridiomycosis has not disappeared...

Their is outrageous deforestation going on right now, and many conservation efforts are in place to stop this. If we released all the sumatran rhinos back into deforestation habitat and out of their sanctuary, would you like that. Many more would be killed.
you could say the same for Moloch Gibbons but we protect them successfully and i do believe you can protect the sumatran rhino for sure

I absolutely love my relationships with the animals they are not trained or tamed they are treated as my equal and they get fantastic benefit form the friendship.
Thyla you don't seem to want to engage positively so why bother if your mind is made up fair enough just move on

But what if chytridiomycosis get in that area. We can't avoid that and risking animals to that isn't a game. I would rather see them safe in a zoo than having the unceasing risk of chytridiomycosis.

Conservationists around the world are trying as hard as they can, but I think you know from being a conservationist yourself, it isn't easy.

sorry you can't call but will add that you are making out i have inherited money ..i did not my money is my own

Really that is irrelevant, I am not making a personal attack on you at all, I'm stating the financial reason why I cannot simply pick up the phone and dial a London office.

You on the other hand could make a call and confirm this, so if you can please do.

i agree it really isn't easy especially trying to get people to accept change
I honestly believe you aren't accepting that much change right now, as stating that zoos are terrible and we could do so much more in the wild. But zoos have saved plenty of species from extinction, and captive breeding programs are in place for many species. You aren't accepting change that much right now, as if you haven't noticed zoos have changed drastically over time, and many now are dedicating themselves to save wildife.

Okay then...here`s a troll tester. If you really are Damian A you will know that you and I had quite a spat by email last year and that our argument featured heavily in Editorials in our magazine Zoo Grapevine and International Zoo News(the second of which you used to own). Can you give me two dates last year on which you sent me emails?

Tim you sent me your magazine with your letter inside from memory the paper was a creamy colour not brilliant white

Ok thank you for your comment but here what you need to know...
Zoos have arguably saved some animals from extinction but the question is could this of been done in situ without zoos and if the species had to be caged somehow then could this not of been done insitu ..i believe the answer is yes to both secondly what i find so shocking is that there was no process to investigate this none at all ...
lastly does this actually justify all the millions of animals enslaved in zoos in sub standard cages and diets i again don't think so
