Zoo Animal Diet

This is a thread for people to talk about zoo animal diets. If anybody wants to ask me about a specific animal's diet, I can let you know what it is.

Do you have by any chance information on the specific diet given to Bighorn sheep (so including hay composition, herbs commonly fed etc.)? I've been trying to estimate it based on a Barbary sheep manual I found as they fill in similar niches in the wild, but chances are slight differences are present.

I don't but I would look on mazuri.com. That is where a lot of zoo diets come from. I'd also compare it to that of a domestic sheep as well.

I've got lots of information on the diets of smaller exotic species, as I have a massive care document where I store the husbandry information of several species. For example, I have information on several porcupine species and Southern tamandua.

I don't. Neither one of those species interests me. I'd assume that their diets wouldn't be hard to replicate in captivity. There are several types of commercial rodent diets available that would supplement a large portion of their diet. I'd also assume that seeds/vegetables would also have to be added.

I'm creating a document of animal diets for my fantasy zoo. These are diets given to the animals at other zoos. You can find it here.

These days for most species groups you can find pellets indeed. The problem with such pellet foods is that they are often too good at feeding animals. For most species I'm actually mostly looking for food that has a low nutrition value per volume or that is easily dispersed, and how much of this food can be given instead of highly nutritional food like pellets.

For my own project I've been looking into suitable plant species to cultivate on-site like trees and shrubs for enrichment but also herbs. Especially evergreen species or species usable on-show (I mostly use plant species native to the same area as the animals) are hard to find.

Hey!

I am desperately looking to find people who wants to share their african spurred tortoise diet sheets.
I have done quite a lot of research, but as i have just taken over the responsibility of three of these animals in my department, i would love to know what other people feed out.
I am also looking for people to tell me their experience or give me notes on things to be observant about. (Like calcium/phosphor balance etc.)

I humbly thank any help in advance!

Greetings.
