More New Guinea short-beaked echidna in the UK isn’t a bad thing - one hopes they have more success with this animal than the aardwolf though...
Great news! It seems the monotremes are on the increase in the UK. First Hamerton, now Hemsley which is much closer to me which is a bonus.Short beaked echidna have been added to the collection, although currently off show:

The aardwolf died due to ingestion of a twig which came off an overhanging tree which perforated his intestine. It was purely 'bad luck'. The PM showed he was in perfect condition. Unfortunately these things happen.
Sure they are all same sources?More New Guinea short-beaked echidna in the UK isn’t a bad thing - one hopes they have more success with this animal than the aardwolf though...
They'd had some really great announcements so far so I can't wait to see what other species they've got.Hemsley Conservation Centre have released an article reviewing 2020 and looking forward to 2021. All the major news from this year has already been mentioned on this thread (birth of rusty-spotted cat, return of maned wolves, arrival of short-beaked echidna) as well as news that two of the prehensile-tailed porcupines have now been introduced with hopes of them breeding in the near future.
Should everything go to plan, in 2021 a couple of new species that arrived in 2020 but have not yet been announced will be revealed and several new enclosures will be opening, including a lemur walkthrough, a tree top enclosure for the tayra and new areas including an enclosure for the echidnas.

Hello!
If anyone does have any questions, please feel free to post them and we shall try our best to get back to you with any relevant specifics!
Maybe worth writing it a little politer as I’m sure running a zoo means that replying to a comment on ZooChat takes priority.I do have some relevant questions for you but I've addressed them to you via PM and you haven't replied.

Definitely Brazilian/lowland.Hemsley CC have teased a new species: A tapir (I assume Brazilian) which has been settling in over lockdown.

Thanks, I was tempted to say but wasn't 100% because I think there were rumours a while ago of Baird's coming in but that clearly isn't the case.Definitely Brazilian/lowland.
Would be wild if Hemsley of all places got them, though I would love to see more. Thanks, I was tempted to say but wasn't 100% because I think there were rumours a while ago of Baird's coming in but that clearly isn't the case.
From Linton I think? The oldest of their most recent 3 male offspringHemsley CC have teased a new species: A tapir (I assume Brazilian) which has been settling in over lockdown.

We are hoping to receive tapirs between Easter and the beginning of the summer holidays, and later in the year they will be joined by spider monkeys - sharing an exhibit. Tapir species will currently be Brazilian but we are working with a coalition of 5 other European zoos on bringing in new blood for Baird's tapirs to form the nucleus of new breeding animals. As with any imports, this is likely to take some time (potentially a few years) and involve a lot of pen pushing.
See above^^From memory, those weren't "rumours" per sethey were outright lies from a certain infamous former member fond of reviewing zoos!
Agreed.Would be wild if Hemsley of all places got them
