A major example is the Giant Panda loans. Supposedly half goes to charity but we have no idea what the rest goes. That's scary, especially with the Chinese government and their human rights issues. I don't like the thought of us getting pandas in exchange for funding for Hong Kong police or funding for the Uyghur education areas. This isn't the same as directors raising their own paychecks in exchange for less conservation but it's still an example of how governments can funnel money out of zoological issues.Transparency would be good, although the zoos themselves may not be the ones at fault. Depending on countries and agencies involved, money is likely getting funneled off as it works towards its final destination. It's not an uncommon situation in many aspects, not just conservation unfortunately. I'm not saying the zoos themselves are innocent of it, but more to the effect of they may not be the ones typically responsible for how little gets through
