Monterey Bay Aquarium Major deep sea animal exhibit coming to MBA

So I'm not sure if anyone's posted about this before but if you don't know what's going on, in 2022 the Monterey Bay Aquarium is opening up the world's first large scale deep sea gallery consisting of animals that have never been displayed before in the world / the US. All of these animals are from the Midnight zone, and I'm super hyped. Well, in September last year, the New York Times wrote an article that the Monterey Bay Aquarium showed on the behind the scenes of this project, and in that article it unveiled what the exhibit layout is looking like for now, and the different animals we could be seeing. Here's the link: Bringing the Ocean’s Midnight Zone Into the Light

Anyways to the main point of this thread, I was looking at these pictures for like the 3rd time now (lol) and I noticed a sign in the corner over here titled "Vampire Squid" and a short description of it. I didn't think anything of it the 2nd time, but when looking around the different exhibit layouts, these are the exact same signs that they're using it looks like for the animals on display. And from the pictures of the room with all the video screens, they don't use these signs it looks like. So my theory is, considering they most likely didn't reveal everything in the article, could 2022 be the year the Vampire Squid is back on display? Back when tentacles opened up, they had a Vampire Squid (along with some other deep sea squids) on display for the first time ever in the world for a short time. Have they finally cracked the code on how to house them permanently? I hope this theory / easter egg leads somewhere, because I'm hyped already for the exhibit but the Vampire Squid possibly being on display again would just blow my excitement out of the water.

It is probable that they will have it when the exhibit opens. Their social media accounts and Animal Crossing gaming streams on Twitch have heavily hinted at it, as well as several other benthic creatures they’re working with.

Oh really? I haven't watched their streams yet but I saw your other reply and it sound super exciting! I thought Volcano worms would be impossible to keep because of the water temperature they need but if they've been able to do it then that's super awesome!

According to the NY times article, about 10,400 square feet with 15 million dollars being the budget. And if the blue spots are what I think they are, about 19-21 aquariums will be in the exhibit

thanks. I couldn’t access the article for whatever reason. That seems kinda a small space for all those tanks in my opinion

Oh wow, thats.... incredible! If they could pull this off in the 90's, think of what the new exhibit will be like! Wish you could read the signage ay 51:21, wonder what that flatfish is, looks similar to Embassichthys bathybius, it is found in the Monterey Bay area so possibly? can't say I'm a fan of the weird puzzle-piece pattern they have on the signage but that's just personal taste. Oh, the things I would do to have seen that exhibit in person!

I have to admit I was also very very surprised by the weird puzzle piece thing, I first found out about it when I found this image which seems to be the entrance to a part in the exhibit.
