On January 7th, 2021, the zoo announced that Steve Lacy is the new superintendent of the zoo. He last worked for SeaWorld San Antonio.

On January 26th, the zoo announced that a (
1.0) bald eagle named Abe (age 30) and a (
0.1) Burmese python named Abby (age 25) have passed away. Maverick, the zoo's other bald eagle, has been taken off exhibit in order to do some renovations, while the zoo is getting ready to obtain another Burmese python to live with their other python, Mr. Slithers.

On April 19th, the zoo announced that it will have increased the maximum capacity of visitors capped at 50%, in accordance with the governor's guidelines.

On April 20th, the zoo announced that the indoor animal hospital viewing area is now once again open to the public.

On June 25th, it was reported that the zoo had its groundbreaking ceremony for its newest cafe, the Trailside Cafe. The cafe will be located in between the conference center and the existing food pavilion.
