The zoos master plan website has been updated. The tropics building will only be focused on species of Borneo and Madagascar. Previously it was also to be focused on the Congo. Therefore it seems gorillas have been dropped from the plans.

Tropics Complex - Seneca Park Zoo

In my opinion not a great loss. The zoo has plenty of ABC species and dedicating more space and focus to orangutans (with which the zoo has long history is probably best).

I'm not surprised by this at all. There is so little space in that area that keeping two great ape species seemed questionable at best. I had spoken once with the former zoo director when gorillas were a part of that plan, and he said they would've gotten a bachelor troop mixed with colobus monkeys; I doubted that would've been safe for the monkeys due to lack of space. In addition, many of the keepers at the zoo have worked with the orangutans before they left and really want them back.

I really hope they maximize the primate collection as much as possible, maybe throwing some gibbons or langurs in with the orangs or some collared lemurs in with the ring-taileds. Is something like this going to be the case?

The zoos website references multiple lemur species so ring-tailed lemur are simply the only confirmed species. But they are still working on design so I only know what's publicly available.

I looked there as well and noticed it was suspiciously missing.

Sometimes stuff gets uploaded weeks or months after the inspection date (the bane of my existence), but this one isn't on there at all. I'll have to remember to check again in the future for when it shows up.

At least the news station included the full USDA report in their story so that it could be read in its entirety.

rumor has it siamang are in the plan with orangutans. The Madagascar section will have more than one lemur yard, so hopefully plenty of space for different species. I’ve heard the new expansion will also have a large shark aquarium and possibly Komodo dragons. But as mentioned elsewhere things are still being designed.
