Tiergarten Schönbrunn News from Schonbrunn

At the end of October 2 pygmy marmosets were born, sadly one passed away. The group now consists of 8 marmosets.

On the 24th of April a female Linnaeus' two-toed sloth was born, she was given the name Pauline.

An old pair of Bearded vultures has adopted a chick which was hatched on Feb. 25 at the Owl and Bird of Prey Center Haringsee. The pair at Schönbrunn has already produced young themself in the past but are now very old and now only produce infirtile eggs. They are however still very good parents and that's why the adoption was tried - and with succes :).

Last Saturday the artic wolf brothers Geri and Freki arrived from Safaripark Monde Sauvage.
They now accompany the already present female Svenja, which was alone at the park after male Ide was euthanized last December.

On the 9th of April another male West Hungarian waterbuffalo was born, he was given the name László. If nothing changed the zoo now should have 7 waterbuffalos.

Sadly the 6-month old female passed away last week. Pathological examinations showed that she had a congenital liver malformation and was therefore unfortunately not able to survive.

On the 10th of April a female Burchell's zebra/Damara zebra (Equus quagga burchellii) was born, she was givent the name Sylvia.

Recently 26 juvenile Potamon socotrensis (Species of freshwater crab from the Socotra Island) were send to Tiergarten Schönbrunn from Zoo Rostock. According to Zoo Rostock's Instagram, they are the only zoo worldwide that have bred this species and until now used to be the only zoo to exhibit them.
