Yorkshire Wildlife Park Yorkshire Wildlife Park News 2021

I like it - but why say the pool is 'filtrated'? I know they talk funny in Yorkshire, but surely they know that the pool's filter system filters the water

Glad it's not just me a little boggled by that..! I don't think it's completely unjustifiable as English, but it is definitely not the natural word choice.

Wonder now they say they aren’t endangered they will allow Bailey/ Lara and Dominic to breed again.. since they have such a large facility ... as I’m sure they will have issues eventually with the males fighting for dominance

I read it as a way of being able to justify calling the pool the “largest”. I imagine that there must be larger pools in the world who take their salt water direct from the sea rather than recycling it as is being done here. This way they can still publicise it as the largest “filtrated” sea lion pool. That’s not even including Longleat who's lake is is larger and not filtrated.

In my very first Chemistry lesson, a very long time ago, our teacher taught us how to fold a filter paper, place it in a filter funnel, moisten it and then filter a suspension of sand grains in salt water. He said that the sand on the filter paper was the residue (which could be washed and dried) and the salt solution was the filtrate (which could be evaporated to leave salt crystals). I have not forgotten :)

Visited on Saturday 29th May and I have a few point to make. I went in April when they reopened but also been again since sea lions opened.

First of all I'm a huge fan of this park it's my favrouite animal attraction in the country.

Points to make:
Construction going on in polar bear enclosure 3 and behind the indoor quarters. No idea what this is but very interesting.

I didnt know YWP houses 3 rhinos I thought they were only 2 but there is 2 together and 1 on it's own.

Sea lion reserve is INCREDIBLE. Fantastic new reserve.

Work taking place near atlantic forest which is very exciting.

Any other notes people want to make just reply to my post.

Ok so Jasper Is On His Own And Makibo and Najuma Are Together.
I Didn't Know Jasper Was Still There

Thank You For That Information

I think originally the plan was to have four distinct polar bear enclosures, not counting the smaller yard behind the house, but the fourth area never seemed to get off the ground despite construction materials having been left in the vicinity, not sure if they could build anything completely new given the proximity to the wetlands.
