Zoo Parc Overloon Overloon zoo news

ZooParc Overloon has started the construction of the second phase of the new expedition part Madidi. Twenty animal species will be on display in this area, including the sloths which are already present. New animal species include spectacled caimans, Tamanduas and Golden lion tamarins. Visitors experience an expedition to South America, where they discover not only animals but also plants and stories from this continent.

Great addition it seems. Unfortunately no info on the site op Zooparc Overloon when it is expected to open.

Another recent addition to the new Madidi area of the zoo are the White-faced whistling-ducks (Dendrocygna viduata). I am not sure from which zoo the ducks came or how many ZooParc Overloon has, but according to a video taken by a zookeeper there at least 4 ducks.

I suspect possibly Burgers Zoo, as they no longer have the species as of fairly recently...

In the last few weeks ZooParc Overloon has released more and more info about the new Madidi area of the zoo. The zoo has released more information about the species that will inhabit this area and they also started a vlog series to showcase the progress.

The following species have recently been revealed on the zoo's instagram:
- Azara's agouti (Dasyprocta azarae)
- Boa constrictor (Boa constrictor)
- Lesser rhea/Darwin`s rhea (Rhea pennata)
- Red Piranha/Red-bellied piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri)
- Red-footed tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonarius)

Only the Azara's agouti can currently be found in ZooParc Overloon and the rest will be new species for the zoo according to Zootierliste.

The Instagram vlogs are in Dutch but do show some nice footage of the construction of the greenhouse.
The first vlog focuses on the new aviary and partially on the greenhouse, which will house new species which have been revealed in previous posts on this thread. Also species that are already present elsewhere in the park will be found in the Madidi area, like the giant anteaters, white-faced saki's and the sloths. The second vlog focuses on the greenhouse and the general manager of the park talks about the Madidi area. Link: https://www.instagram.com/p/CNpGrWBK95c/

The zoo confirmed in the comments of the first vlog, that also the Bush dogs (Speothos venaticus) will be found in the Madidi area. Currently they are housed elsewhere in the park like the giant anteaters etc, the zoo isn't sure what will happen to their former enclosures. Whether they will be renovated or demolished hasn't been determined yet.

Any news when the Amazon building will be opened? I want to visit the zoo, but only if the Amazon area is ready.

The last two African wild dogs have been euthanised. Both animals were already at an advanced age and were experiencing age-related problems.

The enclosure is temporarily empty, but in early September new african wild dogs will arrive.

Last Friday a Giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) was born in the new Madidi area, making it the first birth in this area! The gender is still unknown.
According to the zoo's instagram this is the first giant anteater to be born in The Netherlands in the last 12 months.
