ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2021

The small aviary accessed by the normal (pre Covid) entrance to Gorilla Kingdom has been reopened the past week or so.
Yes, it was open on my visit: 05/08/21. I believe it houses five species: Von der decken's hornbill, madagascar teal, madagascar crested ibis, violaceous turaco, and and species of dove/ pigeon (can't remember exact one)

on the 6th Aug
There was also a Black-Necked Stilt present … no sign or signage of the dove/pigeon you mention , the others had signage and all bar the turaco were visible on my visit.

Good day at very busy zoo on Saturday, pleased to see some updates to bird collection: does anyone know when the red tailed laughingthrushes, purple naped lory, (unsigned) blacksmith plover and silver earred mesias arrived? The trogons are now free flying in the small room where the hummingbirds were.

New reptile house is coming on well, it seems, but does look very small. New coral reef is quite disappointing, will maybe be better once the coral has grown in a bit, but there are only a few species of fish in there at the moment.

The build by butterflies? That will be the new Galápagos tortoise enclosure, due to open September (although been pushed back from July, to end of August and now September). The new reptile house will be similar in style but where the amphitheatre currently is.

Ah, well that's a relief. Quite big for the ZSL tortoises, in that case!

The document is unavailable (Hence me asking) ;)
OK. It seems that the direct link doesn't work, so go to the Seach page Simple Search and enter zoo as the keyword in the box at the bottom of the page. That should bring up a page with all the zoo's recent planning applications. Scroll down to Erection of new Reptile House and Galapagos Tortoise House. That brings up a list of 53 documents and you can choose the ones you want to download.

I see. :)

What is going to happen to the current reptile house and tortoise enclosures? As I believe the current reptile house has some historical value? (and holds more species?)

I don't think that any details have been published yet. The Reptile House will have some displays about the history of the Zoo, but also some animal exhibits too, if I understand correctly.

I was pleased today to see the two tigers now in the same paddock and getting along ok - I hadn't heard that they had been (re)introduced yet, and last time I visited a month ago I didn't see either of them. Asim seems to look less agitated, not so much pacing around in circles and more lying on the top wooden perch.

With the other big cats though, Bhanu was only intermittently visible near the door at the back of his enclosure with the pond but Arya the lioness wasn't visible at all. Have they been allowed to meet directly yet?

The tigers have gradually been introduced to one another over the past few weeks and it seems to be going well. From what I understand once everyone is happy with tiger situation, then they will turn their attention to introducing Bhanu and Arya
