There's a very good chance Rozie is due in 2022 and maybe Mali as well.

Here you go
And
Well the first video is from July so I wouldn’t really say it’s recent considering things can change relatively fast for a pregnant cow. Either way it does look like she has some mammary development in that video. The second video is from a while back (Sept 2018) so there’s no way that mating resulted in a potential current pregnancy. However, I did find a video of Samson breeding Chendra in summer 2020. So fingers crossed Rose-tu and maybe Chendra (though it is very unlikely for her) are pregnant and due next year.

What is the point of breeding for a hybrid calf? Unless it’s for 3/4 then eventually full blood? Like for the northern white rhinos.

Genetic diversity. She’s not related to anyone else and she is maternal in a herd with only one other breeding age female, plus Samson is valuable as well (and much more valuable than any half sibling from Samson). Plus no other Borneos live in the hemisphere so the calf would be only bred with Indian and Malaysian elephants.

But the chances of Chendra getting pregnant is so low now. She had a miscarriage a couple years ago and never has carried a calf to term. I do hope though she has a calf one of these days and they manage to survive EEHV as Lily died from it a couple years ago which was a huge loss for the Asian Elephant population

Yeah, she's around 27-28 years old now and has never carried a pregnancy to term so the chances are very slim indeed. If by some miracle she and Samudra produce a calf together that would be absolutely fantastic for the population. Samudra is much more genetically valuable than Samson and is a third-generation captive born elephant so any calf of his would be fourth-generation which is currently non-existent in NA. Anyways, Oregon desperately needs a calf at this point after so many losses in the last several years. Two calves born around the same time would be fantastic too but I'm not getting my hopes up for Chendra.

If only Sung Surin had calves with Hugo and Tusko, Oregon would have had a large successful breeding herd, with the responsibility not falling onto Rose Tu, but maybe 3 to 5 other breeding females

It would have been so wonderful to have the three females all having calves, plus lily and Chendra and Shine daughters ready to take over for their mothers in the future.

How many calves has Rose Tu as I think she was Lily’s mother. And are any of them still alive?

Samson is...not genetically valuable...like at all.

Hugo and Song Surin could've bred together, and i'm not quite sure why they ended up not.

Though by the time Tusko arrived in 2005, Song Surin had never fallen pregnant and she was already 22 years old, and her chances of falling pregnant were very slim. If she just had some calves with Hugo first maybe a much larger multi-generational herd could be thriving at Oregon right now.

Sorry *Samudra, yeah Samson is not to any stretch of the imagination

Samundra is especially genetically valuable from his mothers side; him and his mother are the only breeding descendents remaining. His father Tusko on the other hand, still has three other children and 17 grandchildren, 5 of which are in the US.
