I made this thread for learning which zoos are good at breeding certain species. For example the Bronx has for years been really good at breeding snow leopards.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park for White Rhino, African Elephant, Masai and Reticulated Giraffe, and any bovid species

Chester zoo for Black Rhino, and Asian Elephant

Center for Elephant Conservation for Asian Elephants over 20 calves have been born

African Lion Safari for Asian Elephant, and Cheetah

Brookfield Zoo for Sitatunga

Maryland zoo for Sitatunga

Indianapolis zoo for Greater Kudu and Reticulated Giraffe

They definitely aren't for cheetah, that's Wildlife Safari.

Taronga Zoo have bred over 100 Common chimpanzee.

Adelaide Zoo have bred many Golden lion tamarin. Their success came from holding multiple pairs, while other zoos faffed around with single pairs.

Jacksonville and Dallas for Yellow-Billed Storks
Bronx for Lesser Adjutant Storks
ICF for Cranes
San Diego Safari Park and Lowry Park for African Elephants
Houston for Asian Elephants
San Diego and White Oak for White & Indian Rhinos
Cincinnati for Sumatran Rhinos (in the past)

Toronto is 100% the top breeder in the AZA of painted terrapin. I cant say what else they are the best at but this is the top one for sure. 35 hatchlings of 51 hatched have thrived. The closest zoo to touch that pace is Fort Worth with 12. Today 16 of the 75 terrapins are descendants of Torontos group of 9 breeding individuals. I'd say pretty good odds. I dont know if they were successful in 2021 but I would assume not as the success seems to come every 2 years but eggs were collected so who knows.

The Toronto Zoo also leads in Bison reproductive and bio tech. They do the most Artificial Insemination I believe out of any AZA zoo in North America.

11 walrus pregnancies and 12 calves have been conceived at Kamogawa Sea World, more than any other facility in the world. The runner-up is Marineland of the Pacific, which closed in 1987 after the conception of 10 pregnancies and 11 calves.

Taronga Zoo has bred over 45 Nepalese red pandas since 1977.

Taronga Zoo has bred 36 Sumatran tiger cubs since 1980.

The high numbers compared to other zoos in the region holding this species are of no coincidence. They were the first holders of these species in the region, supplying the other zoos, and held the studbook for these species - therefore deciding what zoos bred or not.
