Male Siberian tiger named Sasha arrived from Veszprém. He will be in Budapest until Veszprém's new tiger complex won't be ready.
Hi! I agree with you as a person who lives there and has a pass to the zoo. The main cause of this neglectedness is lack of money, partly because of the increasing costs of the biodome. The zoo cannot even receive their Tasmanian devils from Copenhagen because there is no money to build their enclosure.I revisited the zoo last week and comparing to my november 2017 visit, there were now some disappointments. My companion, for whom it was his first visit, found the zoo rather poor and dirty, and that was hard to refute.
Many enclosures/buildings were closed: Giant Otter House, Crocodile House, Owl's Castle, House of Wetlands, and (permanently I persume) the aquarium.
Logically many iconic species were off display too: giant river otter, echidna, wombat, ground cuscus, kowari, crocodiles, etc.
I only saw 1 l'hoest guenon
Highlights were, as in 2017, both Rocks, the large and very active pack of red dhole, the excellent collection of venomous snakes, the Madagascar water lily conservatory, Magical Hill and the Secession architectural style of some of the buildings.
Americana Tropicana still has some interesting species but overall it needs a complete makeover. So does the Australia house imo.
The Palm Caffee and the Zoo Confectionary are permanently closed. The latter is a pity, I found it excellent in 2017. Food is rather poor in the zoo.
I'm aware that the zoo looks a lot better in summertime, but in general it is in urgent need of renovation, and a radical change in presenting species and in visitor facilities : many houses are cramped, a lot of enclosures are a mikmak with unclear visitor paths, the collection is large but there are too many ordinary species, the sidewings of the America Tropicana are lacking species, it's missing a modern zoo restaurant
Somehow, with all those construction works going on in the city, the zoo looks a little neglected. That is a pity because it has great potential with both Rocks as the centerpiece of a modern zoo.
Has the gender of the two cubs actually been announced yet?The Giant otter cubs named Manú and Bahía![]()
Afaik it hasn't, at least I haven't found anything on the website of the zoo.Has the gender of the two cubs actually been announced yet?

Aren't the birds vaccinated? Two pelicans died in bird flu, other specimens are in quarantine now. Visitors can't see the pelicans and a few other waterfowl for a while.
