If conception occurred on this current cycle for Ramai, the baby would be born roughly late September-ish.

The Fiji banded iguanas have begun showing interest in breeding. Vera laid eggs last month but they were infertile and rotted pretty fast. She is plumping up again so they think she is producing another clutch of eggs and they hope that they will be fertile. They should know in the next month if we will see the first successful clutch in the zoo's history. Regardless they are at least interested in breeding so we might see babies before the end of the year.

I believe if Ramai gets pregnant and gives birth to her baby, it will be the last one before she goes past her mother days.

@ProjectGames, you are correct. She will not be bred past 40 so this baby will most definitely be her last. The zoo screwed around waiting for Budi to mature instead of getting a male even temporarily or trying AI at all which cost both Ramai and Sekali an infant. Sekali will have this one and could if the zoo pushes weaning have a second before 40. If they let the baby linger like the did with the last trio then this will be her last too which would be insanity because Sekali is the most valuable we have.

The zoo just welcomed 3 new Bennett's wallabies, male Wallace, female Florence and Florence has a joey in her pouch who is not yet sexed and has just begun to poke its head out. It's been so long since we had a breeding age female and an unneutered male. The joey was a surprise for keepers upon her arrival so hopefully more will follow.

So are the 3 new bennetts wallabies going to be a breeding mob and is the other one a female as well?

@Akula, right now they have new wallabies Wallace and Florence together. Darwin and Stevie are separated from them as well as each other. Just giving everyone there space until they can be together in the summer. They might try to integrate Darwin earlier as hes a much younger animal than elderly Stevie. I could see them waiting on her until spring so she has plenty of space to move away if she's not comfortable.

That's really good news, I was actually wondering today if Darwin and Stevie were gonna be the last of the wallabies and they'd get phased out so it's very nice to hear that won't be the case. Super great to hear we have a surprise joey too, I'll have to see if I can catch a glimpse of it if the newbies are outside on exhibit this summer.

@Akula the keeper didn't say. Another Canadian zoo is very possible but if they arrived in early December or earlier the US might have been an option. They are now in Australasia so they have been at the zoo at least a month.

We are now officially within Masai giraffe, Mstari's birth window. They however are anticipating a mid Feb baby but it could go as long as March.

Also now in the birth window for cheetah, Emarah but we should hear something by the end of Jan about her litter.

@Kifaru Bwana this episode of the podcast was discussed in the 2021 thread. I believe at this point, every transfer mentioned in the episode has gone through with the exception of Adira to Edmonton Valley, and I only say that because we haven't had any official confirmation on that. I agree that we should keep an ear out on new episodes though, there's a lot of little nuggets of information in those that I think we often miss.

The zoo has finally introduced new snow leopard Pemba on Facebook Live. He should be ready for display in a week or two when guests come back. They are estimating it will be at least a year before a new female will arrive, possibly 2 years. Probably indicates a US born female is more likely to be picked which honestly would be good for Canadian genetics.

@TZFan 2 years oof. Guess that means it isn't an easy Kita sub in like I hoped. A US leopard would definitely be great for Canadian genes but that's very unfortunate that our snow leopard breeding program is gonna stay stuck for that long. Hopefully the red pandas and camels can pick up the slack for Eurasia while we're waiting on a female.

@hyena142, sorry to disappoint you. Annoys me too. Fate was cruel to us taking Ena.

Dont count on a camel calf in 2022. They confirmed there is no calf on the way.

Real hope is inbred red panda cubs... Ok maybe thats not the greatest hope to have.

Wait we can hope for Przewalski's horse foals... oh those are inbred too...

Maybe we need to just reserve our hopes for camels and sea eagles in Eurasia. Those are our least icky options.

You're absolutely right, Eurasia is going to have some bad genetics but quite a few babies...

I think that the african Savanna, and maybe rainforest might be the best bay spots for visitors in the coming years. As the African savanna will have baby giraffes, rhinos, Cheetahs, Zebras, Kudus, etc. and The rainforest will hopefully have, pygmy Hippos, gorillas, and maybe Lemurs or another monkey species...

But that's basically it.

TT hasn't had any cubs since the polar bears and wolves. So that's done and Australasia will only have the Roos and Wallabies.

But I guess Indo, Might have orangutans and hopefully tiger cubs in the future.
