Couple of things I gotta say about your DLC wishlist/idea/concept:

  • I think there is a separate thread for this, but if moderators don't think it's off-topic then I have no problem with it;
  • They already stated they won't make exhibit mammals, and I don't think such active animals would thrive in such small claustrophobic spaces, unless an exhibit revamp is made perhaps;
  • Your themes are quite vague and I don't think they would fit a zoo at all, I like some but not every building piece would look nice in a zoological institution;
  • Taxonomic packs will probably never be made unless it's a very vague family, like reptiles, mammals, amphibians and so on;
  • There's more creative ways of including animals that are missed opportunities from other packs:p, "revisiting" a continent is kinda boring, try something like "cute critters pack" (first thing that came to my mind) and fill it with mostly creatures from underrepresented continents.

I didn't know they said they wouldn't make exhibit mammals; in my view, however, the exhibit mammals would NOT be housed in the existing exhibit structure, but a larger type of exhibit destined to hold those and birds; animals like tamarins/marmosets and small rodents are being housed in such conditions in zoos worldwide, to great success. Would you say that the great many small mammal houses (nocturnal or not) throughout the zoos of the world don't deserve a bit of tribute? I believe that, while not as blatantly urgent as aviaries, it would be a necessary touch.

And, finally, the two last (however unlikely and especially controversial) DLC's I thought up;

Ice caps DLC

  • Giant Pacific octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini)

I suppose you can say, that I have now decided to bring in my ideas for what I believe could be the future of the game’s DLC roster. Thus, I have listed down five potential DLC’s, as well as the animals that each pack could contain based on what we know, and what is most the logical:

Avian Animal Pack:
- Caribbean Flamingo,
- Bald Eagle,
- Andean Condor,
- Blue-and-Gold Macaw,
- Victoria Crowned Pigeon,
- Malayan Flying Fox, (for a little non-avian variety)
- Great Indian Hornbill,
- Bali Mynah (exhibit animal).

Desert Pack:
- Dromedary Camel,
- Arabian Leopard, (if not, then Caracal)
- Striped Hyena,
- African Spurred Tortoise,
- Sidewinder (exhibit animal).

I also wanted to bring up, and add on my own personal take of the following DLC that could serve as either an option or as a replacement for one of the packs that I have already listed above. In addition to guessing on which species could be the most logical for this specific pack:

Greater Asia Animal Pack:
- Amur Leopard, - (instead of the Arabian Leopard from the Desert DLC)
- Blackbuck,
- Sichuan Takin, - (if not, then Domestic Yak from the Mountain/Taiga DLC)
- Francois’ Leaf Monkey,
- Tanuki/Raccoon Dog, - (if not, then Asian Small-Clawed Otter)
- Przewalski’s Wild Horse, - (alternative placement from the Conservation Comebacks DLC)
- Red-Crowned Crane,
- King Cobra (exhibit animal).

Very well rounded DLC proposal! :)
Red-crowned cranes would be a wonderful addition, as would be blackbucks; they'd make great exhibit mates for the Indian rhinos.

The only things I'd still like for Planet Zoo are aviaries, with macaws and owls being the main type of birds I want to see, and maybe either a Madagascar or Amazon rainforest animal pack. I notice that not as many people in the game's community talk about aviaries now, since Jurassic World Evolution 2 came out and their aviary mechanic turned out to be a buggy mess, but I still hope the game introduces aviaries this year.

I suppose you can say, that after embracing the now-released Wetlands Animal Pack for the past week or so. I eventually decided to rethink about most of my current ideas, and to make some well-intended changes to compensate with this new release. Thus, I have since reworked my six DLC ideas that I have previously shared, along with the addition of my own personal take on a certain proposed theme; and how each of these ideas can still (potentially) become the layout for the future of the game’s roster:

“Avian Expansion Pack”:
- North Island Brown Kiwi, (a flightless option)
- Bald Eagle,
- Andean Condor,
- Green-Winged Macaw,
- Victoria Crowned Pigeon,
- Malayan Flying Fox, (for a little non-avian variety)
- Wreathed Hornbill,
- Great Blue Turaco,
- Northern Bald Ibis,
- Eurasian Eagle Owl,
- Roseate Spoonbill,
- Keel-Billed Toucan,
- Laughing Kookaburra,
- Harris’s Hawk,
- Lesser Bird of Paradise,
- Bali Mynah (exhibit animal, if not, then Paradise Flying Snake).

Desert Pack:
- Dromedary Camel,
- Sand Cat, (if not, then Caracal)
- Collared Peccary,
- Emu, (if not, then Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby)
- Arizona Coral Snake (exhibit animal).

Conservation Comebacks Pack:
- Tasmanian Devil,
- Przewalski's Wild Horse,
- Scimitar-Horned Oryx,
- Whooping Crane,
- Lord Howe Island Stick Insect (exhibit animal)*.

Mountain/Taiga Pack:
- Pallas’s Cat,

- King Cobra (exhibit animal).

- Fossa, - (alternative placement from the Tropical Animal DLC)
- Aye-Aye,
- Radiated Tortoise,
- Madagascar Giant Jumping Rat,
- Panther Chameleon (exhibit animal, if not, then Madagascar Hissing Cockroach).

Golden Snub-nosed Monkey might be better?
When I was first deciding about which animals would be used for my own take on the “Greater Asia Pack”, I had originally considered on using this species as the pack’s primate representative. But since I thought the leaf monkeys were an equally cool-looking species of primate, (along with the fact that they are a bit more common in zoos). I then thought it would be a good idea to have them as an unlisted alternative to the leaf monkeys; but for the most part, if Frontier ever decided to create a Greater Asia DLC and did not utilize the leaf monkeys. Then the snub-nosed monkeys would naturally be my next species of choice.

I was thinking earlier that almost all the animals from Zoo Tycoon 2 are now in Planet Zoo and I was wondering how many of the remaining species are likely to make it, so I thought I would put my opinion.

Base Game - Missing Animals: 5

Black Rhinoceros - I think this would be likely if there is ever a "savanna pack" or a revisit to Africa. We already have two rhino species but black rhinos are also a common zoo animal and would probably be quite easy to add.

Dromedary Camel - I am surprised we don't already have the dromedary, I know we already have Bactrian camels but the dromedary feels like such an archetypical desert animal. I would definitely expect to see them in a future desert or Middle Eastern pack.

Emperor Penguin - Most would be hesitant since we already have the king penguin, and yes it is true that emperor penguins are rare in captivity they are not unheard of and I think they would be decently likely if there is ever a "tundra pack" of some kind... also they would be a very easy addition.

Mountain Gorilla - Unheard of in captivity but I think they could happen in a potential rainforest pack as it would be easy to reuse the assets from the gorillas already in the game.

Nile Crocodile - We already have a good variety of crocodilians in the game but the Nile crocodile is one of the more well-known species so I could see them being added at some point... though they would have been good for the Wetlands pack we just got so maybe not.

DLC - Missing Animals: 3

Addax - I think these are likely to be added if we get a desert pack.

Leopard - It is absolutely insane to me that we do not have leopards in this game, I will be extremely shocked if they do not appear in a future DLC pack.

Muskox - This is another animal I am surprised we have not gotten yet, they would have fit into a lot of packs. I would definitely expect them if we get some kind of tundra themed pack.

Endangered Species Expansion Pack - Missing Animals: 8

Black Crested Gibbon - This is one of the weirder animals in Zoo Tycoon 2, if we get gibbons eventually I expect another more well-known species.

Javan Rhinoceros - This animal doesn't really make sense to be in a zoo game considering it has been over 100 years since they have been kept in captivity... The only reason I could see them potentially being added is because it would be very easy to create from the existing Indian rhino.

Markhor - I could see these being added in a mountain themed pack in the future.

Przewalski's Horse - I think these are likely to be added if we get a grasslands pack in the future.

Scimitar Oryx - I don't feel like we will see these added, there is a lot of other desert ungulates that are more iconic or unique to compete with.

Iberian Lynx - Way too similar to the Eurasian lynx we already have, I know I said before about reusing assets but I feel like they can only really get away with that for more ABC-esque animals.

Spectacled Bear - Quite likely to see if we ever get a return to South America or a forest pack.

Wolverine - I am surprised we don't have these yet, seemed like a shoe-in pick for the North American or European packs... Would definitely expect to see in a forest or tundra pack in the future.

African Adventure Expansion Pack - Missing Animals: 11

African Spurred Tortoise - I think these could be added in a desert pack, another tortoise species wouldn't hurt and this is the next largest.

Barbary Macaque - We already have the Japanese macaque in the game and with us not having many small primates it would make more sense to prioritise more unique species so I don't see these as too likely.

Caracal - I think these are likely to appear as they are a rather common animal and it would be nice to have another smaller cat species.

Ethiopian Wolf - I could see these in a mountain themed pack as it would be easy to recreate them from the existing wolves even though they aren't actually kept in zoos.

Gelada - I definitely can see these being added in a mountain pack as another small primate, which we need more of... decently well known and shouldn't be too hard to make from the existing primates I imagine.

Gerenuk - We have quite a lot of smaller antelope species but I feel that the unique appearance of the gerenuk means it could potentially be added in a savanna themed pack.

Masai Giraffe - This would be a really easy addition and they could get away with it with how popular giraffes are, I think it could happen in a savanna pack.

Ratel - With how infamous these are I am surprised they have not been added yet, I would definitely expect to see them in a savanna pack if we get one.

Secretarybird - Another species I am surprised we don't have... with how the birds currently in the game function this seems like an obvious choice for a future savanna themed pack.

Striped Hyena - I am not too sure if hyenas are popular enough to warrant a second species being added honestly.

Blue Wildebeest - I don't seem them being added as they are too similar to the black wildebeest.

Leaving out Marine Mania and Extinct Animals because I am not convinced we will get fully aquatic animals and there is no way we get extinct stuff.

Mountain gorillas cannot be kept in captivity as their needs are too specific and we do not have any in captivity right now to experiment new holding strategies;
Ethipian Wolves cannot be kept due to the Ethiopian laws on wildlife export (I'm surprised that it was in ZT2 in the first place);
I don't see what's the reason behind people thinking we'll get a "revisiting x" pack: it's just boring and wouldn't really sell as for captivness, it's way better to find another original theme and fill it with animals from underrepresented continents.

Ok, I may not own this game yet, but I suppose I can throw my metaphorical hat into the ring with a DLC idea of my own: the Endangered Animal Pack!
With regional packs basically done, most ideas for new packs are biome-based, but let's not forget that the first expansion for Zoo Tycoon 2 was Endangered Species. Here are the 8 species I chose, plus my reasons for each one.
  1. The Eastern Black Rhinoceros is arguably the most iconic Zoo Tycoon rhino, being available since the very first game. For some baffling reason, however, the Indian Rhino was Planet Zoo's sole rhino representative until the Southern White Rhino in the Africa Pack. The Black Rhino would differentiate itself from the White Rhino by its more solitary nature (perhaps only a breeding pair per habitat?) and critically endangered status.
  2. Another iconic Zoo Tycoon perissodactyl is the Przewalski's Wild Horse. I've always felt like Planet Zoo was missing a lot of Asian ungulates, and while the Water Buffalo has helped alleviate that issue somewhat, I think we still need more from the colder, drier parts of Asia. I could also see the wild horse getting an interspecies enrichment bonus with the Bactrian camel.
  3. The leopard is the only member of the Panthera genus to not be a part of Planet Zoo's roster at the moment, and out of all the leopard subspecies, I think the Amur Leopard is the most logical choice. It's one of the rarest big cats in the wild, yet very common in captivity, which makes it a perfect candidate for this hypothetical pack.
  4. If the California Sea Lion is the Mario of Marine Mania, then the Sea Otter is its Luigi. With the sea lion being reintroduced through the North America Pack, I'm 90% certain that the Sea Otter isn't too far behind. And yes, I'm well aware that we already have two otter species in this game, but if the Oregon Zoo can get away with having three otter species, why can't Planet Zoo? Also, every pack needs a new deep diver, right?
  5. So far, this pack has been awfully mammal-heavy, so let's break it up with a bird! I chose the Shoebill because of its unique appearance, tropical African habitat (a combination yet to be seen in a DLC animal), and online popularity. Given how friendly they are in captivity, perhaps the Shoebill could also be a walkabout species?
  6. It seems like Frontier has slowly been drip feeding us more South American species to make up for the relatively few we got in the South America Pack. I felt like a primate species was missing from this pack, so I settled on the Geoffroy's Spider Monkey. I like the capuchin monkey a lot, but I suppose another New World monkey species couldn't hurt, and I think this one is the second-most iconic large one. Yeah, we don't have proper brachiation yet, but we do have an animal with a prehensile tail that it uses to hang from the climbing frame (Binturong). If Frontier could use that as a base, maybe they could transition to proper brachiation and open the door for gibbons?
  7. For the final habitat species of this hypothetical pack, we have my most controversial pick: the Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat. Before I get bombarded with "this animal isn't in captivity" comments, let me explain with my extremely well-thought out explanation: it was in Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Collection. As much as I dislike that game, I won't deny that it has had plenty of influence over Planet Zoo. That game is the reason why the lion is specifically West African, why the Asian Black Bear is the Formosan subspecies, why the Lesser Antillean Iguana is even available in the first place. Not to mention we already have the Proboscis Monkey and the Platypus, both of which are rare in captivity, so what's the harm in including the Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat? It's another Australian species and another burrower like the Aardvark or European Badger, so there's that, too. I was considering the Tasmanian Devil instead, but I have other plans for them.
  8. And to close things off with the exhibit animal, I've chosen the Axolotl, for no better reason than to keep up this salamander train that Frontier started with the Europe Pack. Also Axolotls are iconic animals on the internet, so they have that going for them.
And there you have it! I have a lot more pack ideas, but I'll hold off on posting them until we get another pack confirmed (which might happen in June, but who knows?).
