This evening, a fire started in Köln's Tropical house. Unfortunately, some birds living in the free-flight hall died, no other persons or animals were harmed and the fire is already under control.
Very sad news.
Her friend Chumpol also died in the same way, even though she was killed by another cow at the time.
One would think that due to his age, Bindu would not do anything like that, but unfortunately this is not the case.
Port Lympne .... I think. It was also news to me that when Bindu was 13 years old, he killed a keeper. One source claims it was a case of the elephant not knowing his own strength and the incident (at Port Lympne no less) is not necessarily an indication of an abnormally aggressive bull (after all there’s a reason bulls are managed in protected contact); but was just mentioning it out of general interest/background on Bindu.
Port Lympne .... I think.
That is really sad newsIn the meantime, the zoo has given more information. The fire broke out in the false ceiling between the hall itself and the event location underneath it, that's why they rule out arson. The animals died because of the smoke that entered the main hall, not the fire itself, which was luckily brought under control rather quick by the fire department. They are currently assessing the damage and safety. The zoo will open normally, but the house will remain closed until they checked/repaired everything.

Any word on the extent of the damage and how long it will take to fit it ?
Some news about the rainforest house: The last matschie's tree kangaroo is luckily fine, as is it's exhibit, where it continues to live.
So you can't see the tree kangaroo?
