Ok your right. They do have two. I guess its been a while since I went. I've only seen Temur on exabit so maybe Jilin is behind the scenes right now. This project looks very interesting. They're supposed to have two: a male named Temur and a female named Jilin. Maybe only one is on exhibit at a time?
Amur Leopard Habitat Expansion Project – Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens
Update: The bird was finally talked about on Instagram. They said he was a peacock present and is name is Mr. P. Drill was correct.Yes, so it is
While I think it is great they have these monkeys, and I would love to see them, I still think the primate habitats at this zoo are lacking substantially for an AZA accredited zoo. I kind of wonder the back story on how the CFLZ was chosen for them to go to.Three baby Mexican spider monkeys named Violet, Sunny, and Klaus, have been rescued from the pet trade and added to the zoo. They are being displayed with their black handed spider monkey, Big Guy.
All great points. Yes, I saw an article that said that the monkeys will be a breeding group in the SSP when they mature.I can't find why the CFZ was chosen, but my best guess is that all of the articles are saying that since Big Guy "has been a dad 15 times and who has strong paternal instincts.", they may have chose it because Big Guy was alone since his partner ZaZa died last year. And in the zoos defense, the spider monkey habitat is the better and larger of the zoos primate areas as I do agree with you on how some of them are a bit outdated.
The articles are also talking about how said monkeys may be involved in the SSP for the Mexican spider monkey
Also yes, the monkeys were named after the character's from "A Series of Unfortunate Events"
