Feels like maybe not the best long term use of that area, but wallabies are good in the short term.
Glad someone said it. Nothing against wallabies, and I'd glad they get some space to roam, but the zoo is getting pretty redundant with more than couple species. Penguins everywhere. 2 new otter exhibits on the room to roam master plan on top of the river otters in Wolf Woods. An entire area converted to a kangaroo walkthrough then wallabies on the other side of the zoo.
The remaking of this zoo is something I looked forward to for a very long time given the; at times, outdated and small exhibit quality. I always envisioned them sacrificing some less interesting species to make room for the classic Cincinnati rarities.
I don't mind the zoo not having everything under the sun. I wish they'd have just let go of keeping bears. I could have lived with them not having elephants, to be honest. It's not about having a complete or massive collection. It's about having something different that sets them apart, as they always did. Now they have almost nothing of the sort, and focus on over promotion of celebrity animals, sometimes to the detriment of the animals themselves.
I've defended the zoo from critics in the past, but it's becoming thoroughly uninteresting.
