Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Cincinnati Zoo News 2022

Feels like maybe not the best long term use of that area, but wallabies are good in the short term.

Glad someone said it. Nothing against wallabies, and I'd glad they get some space to roam, but the zoo is getting pretty redundant with more than couple species. Penguins everywhere. 2 new otter exhibits on the room to roam master plan on top of the river otters in Wolf Woods. An entire area converted to a kangaroo walkthrough then wallabies on the other side of the zoo.

The remaking of this zoo is something I looked forward to for a very long time given the; at times, outdated and small exhibit quality. I always envisioned them sacrificing some less interesting species to make room for the classic Cincinnati rarities.

I don't mind the zoo not having everything under the sun. I wish they'd have just let go of keeping bears. I could have lived with them not having elephants, to be honest. It's not about having a complete or massive collection. It's about having something different that sets them apart, as they always did. Now they have almost nothing of the sort, and focus on over promotion of celebrity animals, sometimes to the detriment of the animals themselves.

I've defended the zoo from critics in the past, but it's becoming thoroughly uninteresting.

Just went to the zoo today and it looks like they've rolled back their avian flu restrictions a bit. The African penguins, African savannah birds, and New Zealand scaup (on exhibit with the blue penguins) are back out. The Amazon and Australasia exhibits in Birds of the World remain closed. The barred and Eurasian eagle owls and I think blue penguins remain off exhibit.

What is currently closed overall? Is part of Birds of the World open?

I understand where your coming from we didn’t need another cramped bear exhibit then I noticed another Giraffe exhibit SMH their running out of ideas

- It looks like the zoo has a new tiger. Attached is a photo of a sign by one of the tiger exhibits saying "I may not be out at all times as I'm getting used to my new home." I assume an official announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

- The bird flu restrictions are almost toatally rolled back further. The Amazon aviary is open, all the outdoor penguins are on display again, the owls and bald eagles are back, and a salmon-crested cockatoo and Cape Barren geese are on exhibit on a small island next to Bird House.

- The Bird House seemed to be closed today for maintenance, had a sign in front of the entrance saying so. Initially it was just Australasia, but I think the building is closed just because of the Australasia work.

- Native turtles are on display in a small pond just south of Reptile House.

I went to the Cincinnati zoo today (June 5) and there was a fishing cat unsigned in the exhibit in night hunters labeled for southern Brazilian ocelots.

I went through the building several times on my visit a week and a half ago (yes, I ended up going, lol) and there was just a sign saying the exhibit was empty, so definitely a new addition :)

- Scarlet macaw, blue-throated macaws, blue-and-gold macaw, and helmeted curassows are on exhibit outdoors at Jungle Trails.
- For about a week now, the Free Flight Aviary has been open to visitors for the first time in two years. New to the exhibit are a pair of Victoria crowned pigeons.

Eastern white pelicans have replaced the flamingos in Africa. I assume the ones that were originally intended to live with the African penguins.

I assume that as well as they were moved to the former polar bear exhibit and now that's under renovation. Hopefully this will be their permanent home for a bit.

Darn thats a shame I would have thought they would have brought Zero in to breed with one of the 3 sisters from a couple of years back (not sure if they still even have 1 of the 3 siblings anymore).
