Smithsonian National Zoo Smithsonian National Zoo News 2022

New animals (including binturongs, ..... will join the Zoo’s collection,
The zoo answered when/where these will go on exhibit recently, but they did it in one of their member exclusive emails and the info isn't yet on their website, so not sure if I should post anymore of what it said.

The zoo has a new sand cat named Najma. Not sure if they still have Lulu, but considering they listed the sand cat as off-exhibit on the website for basically just a week I'd guess not.

After not seeing them for a while on my most recent visit the ringed teal were back on exhibit in Amazonia.

If they answered it in a member forum - it's public. Memberships don't hold exclusivity for zoo news.

Yeah I just tend to overthink things for stupid reasons, but I'll just post what it said.

This Friday (May 27th) the zoo will be opening a new exhibit called the Claws & Paws Pathway. The path will feature four species, North American porcupine, bobcats, binturongs, and Pallas's cats.

I believe the area is located next to the prairie dogs on the Olmsted walk.

I was wondering if they’d ever reopen that path! One of my favorite spots since it’s nice and quiet and out of the way. Binturongs and Pallas’ Cats are super exciting too!

I've known about Claws & Paws Pathway since winter. Each vist I have been on Smokey the Bear trail looking over to see if I could see any animals in the enclosures. It wasn't until this month, with a super zoomed in camera, that I finally spotted one of the binturong. I'm very excited to see everyone up close!

The zoo announced on Facebook a female white-naped crane chick hatched on May 5th at SCBI. She is her parents 5th offspring (49th for SCBI), but prior to hatching was placed with surrogate parents (whose own egg was infertile) to give them parental experience.
