Zoo de la Flèche La fleche zoo

Birth of a male Kordofan giraffe last January 10th. The young has been called Kano (name of a nigerian town). Parents are Uzul and Dioni.
 
New informations regarding the new anteaters enclosure : it will be a 1.000 m² and 7 meters high aviary where the giant anteaters will live with squirrel monkeys (already at the park but in a uggly enclosure) and birds. Closed to this new aviary there will be a new amardillos enclosure.

The new aviary opened July 13th and is home to : 12 squirrel monkeys, 6 scarlet ibis, 2 six-banded armadillos, 2 giant anteaters and 3 patagonian maras.


Other news : the zoo received 3 Azara's agoutis (new species for them)

On the zoo internet site there is a page for the new aviary where it is indicated that they will manage to get some yellow-breasted capuchins in in the future. It will be a new species for the zoo.

- birth of a squirrel monkey during this winter.
- death of Wally, a 20 years old female californian sea lion, at the end of the year.
 
Just to complete my previous message : the dwarf mongooses are 2.1 animals ;)
 
According to the french forum, the zoo is building an hotel and two new enclosures for lions and cheetahs in the historical part. No more info for the moment but since a few years the zoo wanted to add an african savannah area to relocate its giraffe herd, hippopotamuses, lions...
 
Recent news :
- birth of two squirrel monkeys in the south-american aviary,
- Taïko, male polar bear who left the park to go to Budapest 3 years ago came back. It seems that Budapest was unable to renovate its exhibit so the direction decided to move the bear. When La Flèche knew this they acted to take him again. The Zoo hopes to mix him with Aaron the already present male. Taïko will not be able to breed with Quintana the resident female.

More infos have bee released about the future project : The zoo will have a 4,4 hectares enlargement on the car park (which will be transfered in another area).
The new enclosures will be :
- 1,2 hectare african savannah for giraffes, crowned cranes, impalas, greater kudus, Cap elands, sable antelopes, zebras and ostriches (all new species except giraffes and cranes),
- 2.500 square meters lion enclosure,
- 2.500 square meters cheetah enclosure,
- 2.500 square meters common hippo enclosure with a 800 square meters pond,
- a spotted hyena enclosure (new species),
- a gambian rat exhibit (new species),
- a red river hog + guenon exhibit (new species),
- an island for patas (new) and colobus,
- a serval enclosure,
- new exhibit for meerkats, dik-diks (new) and african spurred tortoises,
- aviary for african grey parrots,
- aviary for Von der Decken's hornbills and passerines.

Of course, there will be new lodges on lions/cheetahs/savannah.
