Parque de Cotia (new zoo in São Paulo)

I find how almost all the visitor paths seem to be covered very interesting

Indeed, that's one of the things the institution's marketing team is always proud to mention. An interesting way of protecting guests from the sun, but I'm still doubtful about wether it takes a bit from the "natural" experience that is supposed to be inherent in a zoo visit... Let's wait and see.

These are very interesting news, guys. It seems like the Animalia Park is indeed not gonna let anyone disappointed with it's collection. Let's hope they put the same effort on the conservation programs. Has anyone got information about the place's inauguration, by the way?

P.S: Welcome to zoochat, Matrin71.

It doesn't look like it's going to open this year, they're still building brand new enclosures, even in the last drone video made there, the guy who recorded it said they're increasing the size of the park by buying more land around it. I don't know if that's true really, but if it is, it will take a long time to finish, even more than there are two months left for the year to end, I believe that the park will open in March or even later by the way things go

the video was posted three days ago, it shows that they are building at least 3 more new enclosures that I could identify, two very large ones next to what will be the gorilla enclosure and one in front of the rhino enclosure, but I couldn't see anything about the expansion of the park.

What do you think about the gorilla enclosure? I think it's too big, but I have no idea if it's the ideal size or the ideal is really big.

Does anyone have any information about the elephants, pandas and giraffes? their enclosure or any other information whether or not they will have these animals in the park? the giraffes look like they will stay in the African savannah enclosure, right at the beginning. but the others I have no idea where they can be, especially the elephant that needs from a considerably large space and I don't see any place like this from the drone videos

yeah, i do also believe the park will open in march, but maybe there are chances of being inaugurated in january or even in december of this year.

i think the gorilla enclosure looks very impressive, it's big because gorillas are primates that need to a big area to live, and about the giant pandas, we don't have any information yet, but when some of us find we will post here, the same thing with elephants and giraffes.

I have no idea about their opening date, but if I had to guess, I'd say they'll open before everything is finished, just like Bioparque do Rio. If there are expansions to happen, they might take place with the zoo and park already working.

About the enclosures near the gorilla exhibit, they are supposed to be for cheetah and spotted hyena, according to the map they have previously released. That lighthouse enclosure near the rhinos is supposed to hold white pelicans, and one of the aviaries in front is already holding flamingos, afaik.

Talking about the gorilla exhibit, there's no such a thing as a perfect size. Theoretically, the bigger it is, the better. Of course, it's a zoo, so animals should be visible at some point, even though they should have spots to hide whenever they want. If you check our enclosure for said animals here in Belo Horizonte, it's not extremely big (2000m2) yet it's pretty suitable for them. So it is that they have bred four times in less than ten years together. Enrichment and vegetation has a huge role in my opinion. Also, we're not sure the Animalia is indeed gonna keep gorillas; these are very difficult animals to obtain and they haven't contacted BH zoo so far. Let's wait and see...

On the regard of elephants, I have heard they were initially the main focus of the Animalia park (so it was that it was to be named as "Parque dos elefantes" until a certain point) but they no longer intend to keep them, at least not for now. They are about to receive five giraffes, but I have no idea when that would happen; and about the pandas, I have absolutely no information.

from what I followed through the drone images and through the park workers the hyena and cheetah enclosure are the ones above the gorilla, the enclosure that has the lighthouse are for sea lions, the gorilla enclosure is the largest enclosure next to the rhinos, and the flamingo enclosure according to the map is where it is marked "exotic birds", the pelicans I believe is one next to the hyenas (but I'm not sure). I mentioned are being built next to the gorilla, a place where it used to be empty.
according to the workers and the map, they will indeed have gorillas and by the amount of information that has already been confirmed, I do believe that they will have gorillas no matter how difficult it is.

how did you find out how many giraffes they plan to have?

I have heard about sea lions indeed, but I'm not sure. Their map showed pelicans in that exhibit.
I know where the gorilla enclosure is; about that previously empty space, I have no idea what would be kept there... Maybe more great apes? By the way, I'm not a fan of that huge gorilla statue that's being built on top of the handling area...

is it a gorilla statue? Seriously ? I kept wondering what the pointless business was.
i thought about great apes too or some other african animal, since that part of the park seems to represent Africa too, but i guess we'll only find out later

It's clearly going to be a gorilla statue. Look at how the superior portion of it is shaped like a gorilla's head. It's a very tacky thing IMO to say the truth. Not naturalistic nor educative at all... I hope they at least let some vines or something grow on it... Hope it gets better.

actually, if you look more closely it looks like it... but I don't like it very much either, in fact it's even kind of strange, but it may be better when it's finished.

do you think they will also bring other primates like chimpanzees, orangutans, gibbons, baboons, or perhaps a good selection of new world and old world primates?

if I were to take a guess I would say baboons or mandrills, but as this park is bringing several new species to Brazil I would say it is possible.
New world monkeys for sure they will have, capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys and howler monkeys I think they are the most likely to have

that's awesome.

I would support myself on the possibilities of most of these being part of the collection. Maybe not initially, but they do have the ressources to do such as the park grows even more. This place brings high expectations in therms of collection indeed... That's no doubt.
