Could Anyone tell me where marwells malayan Tapirs came from, were were they kept and what, in the end, happend to them? i remeber seeing them but i dont no were?

ok here goes: the last female had to be put down dut to ill health (2000-2005?), they used to live opposite the pygmy hippos, where roof of the world now is but i dont know where they came from i think they may have been bred in the collection.

I think the last pair were a male, Lodhran, who died/ PTS at the end of 2005, and his mate was called Saa-yung, who died before him (2005 also?).

I recall a male called Rae and possibly a male called Hoover, born at Marwell who moved to Twycross.

New Tapirs At Marwell

This may have already been reported but couldn't be bothered to go through all traffic on Marwell as has degenerated somewhat recently.

Marwell will receive 2 Lowland Tapirs at the end of March. They will be housed in the Semi0-Aquatic Mammal House.:)

The last one was put to sleep a few years back, the hippos will be a little squashed for room!

so where will be the tapirs outdoor enclosure? i wouldn't imagin thay'ed share

Huh, some news even I didn't know!

The hippos would once more be restricted to one paddock, with the tapirs taking the other, and with Fatima due to go soon, they would take her stall, which is the one on the far right of the house.

Shame that it's no longer gonna be malayans though, I always thought they'd look good in the paddock the sitatunga currently live in.

yes, i think so too, if they still had malayans they would have made a great addition to life in the trees

Except that there's no where in LITT big enough to keep them. Even the anoa are pushed for space IMO.
