Mixed species exhibit ideas

Odd, since Burgers' zoo is currently introducing Collared peccaries to their Black-tailed prairie dogs and North American porcupines
I’m sure with the right exhibit and right individuals it could be done. Porcupines spend a lot of time up trees and prairie dogs near burrows, so presumably that could help… though I still have a hard time not imagining prairie dogs getting snapped up. It’s not something I’d ever feel comfortable trying.

Prairie dogs… another vicious critter (especially to each other). If prairie dogs were the size of capybara, I’m pretty sure they’d depopulate western North America.

How vicious are we talking?

Prairie dogs can be savage towards each other. Introducing new prairie dogs to a colony has to be done very delicately, otherwise they’ll slaughter each other. I’ve seen some intros which were not done carefully. The results were pretty brutal, with many deaths. I’ve heard of (but not seen) cases in which someone tried howdying a new prairie dog by putting it in a crate in the main enclosure. The others buried it alive, crate and all

What is it with cute, social, burrowing small mammals that are popular with kids and extreme violence? I thought Prairie Dogs were the “wholesome” version of meerkats, but I guess nature isn’t “wholesome”, is it?

Can anything be mixed with lac alaotran gentle lemurs? Would be in a medium enclosure for the species but wondered whether or not they’re too nervous to be mixed with anything

Meller’s Ducks and/or Madagascar Teal should work

Very recently, I’ve been thinking about a recurring idea on how, if possible, it would be to incorporate North American River Otters with a large, rescued group of West Indian Manatees. However, I am also not certain if this mix could still work out, if, juvenile manatees were added to the mix. But even without juveniles, would the following idea still feasibly work out in a way that would be best for both species overall? In either case, I would still take any responses with appreciative gratitude, just to see if the following can be feasible enough for me to work with.

Out of curiosity, what zoos would those be?

According to ZTL, Burgers zoo has over 600. Of course, that doesn't mean it's 100% accutate.

Edit: I misread. BZ has had 600 young with their red fodies. I doubt they're all still flying there

Paris zoo also has about 150 of them, which came from Arnhem. There's a few others with more than 90

In this situation I fear for a sunfish type of situation. Where otters might take bites out of the manatees every now and then, with the manatees being helpless to stop it. I believe there would also be an issue of water temperature needs

I suppose you do have a pretty good point in regards of the otters pestering the manatees. But in regards of water temperature, if I remember correctly, (do correct me though if I am wrong). Given that wild otters and manatees coexist with each other in Florida, I just assumed that the two wouldn’t have to deal too much with the temperature of the water throughout much of the year; although, for the latter species in a cold snap, that’s a different story.

Another mix I have in mind to ask about is mixing either Rhinoceros or Wreathed Hornbill with Green Peafowl Pavo muticus, White-breasted Wood Swallow Artamus leucorynchus, Metallic Starling Aplonis metallica, and Spotted Laughingthrush Garrulax ocellatus?

I feel like the hornbills would eat any peachicks if the peafowl were breeding.
