At least new for me, is the confirmation that rhinos will be back at the Tierpark after they were removed from the elephant house plans. However it is not clear which specie the exhibit will be for
Berlin seems to house different species (with exceptions for species that need more space given the rarity in Europe or because they're more important from a conservation POV, such as the Chinese water deer) in its two parks and they complement each other, so I don't see why they would use such space for a species already highly anticipated for the zoo in the Tierpark: I think it's more likely they'll use that area you mention for Hoofstock as the park has a good history (and passion may I add) with these animals.I’m still hoping for both black ánd white! I’m even hoping for indian rhino in that empty huge field across the kiangs as an extention of the Himalaya section.

However it is not clear which species the exhibit will be for with pictures of white rhino in masterplan while black rhino have long been planned and with stronger breeding needs. I also like to see that Somalian Wildass are not given up and included in a desert theme.
I am not a big fan to see that the giant aviary plans are kept. I would prefer several smaller aviaries, much better suited to birds requirements.
Would be curious also to see more details about what would be planned for Sumatran tigers and polar bear/sealions area.
if this is the case then what would happen to the rhinoceros house in Zoo Berlin that held black rhinoceros?Given the strong focus on endangered species, I would expect them to go for Black Rhinos. Pictures can be misleading, as people often take what they can find and then don't always get double checked. But of course, I'm just speculating here as well.
Only those present in photos, so hyacinth macaws, wattled cranes and white-handed gibbon, which could very well be just "placeholders" to represent candidates as perhaps it's just in the planning phase and no clear idea is in mind.Is there much indication on species for the large aviary?
@markmeier i completely agree that it would be much nicer to see more smaller geographically themed aviaries around the site. Seems strange to go to so much effort to theme the mammal areas of the bird aviary will not be also!
Minor point but isn't that a siberian crane, not wattled?Only those present in photos, so hyacinth macaws, wattled cranes and white-handed gibbon, which could very well be just "placeholders" to represent candidates as perhaps it's just in the planning phase and no clear idea is in mind.
Which species will be displaced by the building of the new lion and rhino areas?
Well it's a plan for up to 2035, animals will probably be moved around the parks, it's not said that they'll leave (nor that they'll remain too)As far as I can see, the lions will receive the enclosures of barbary macaques and the ungulate species next to them (I can't remember which one this is right now).
The rhinos seem to receive the space of both African buffaloes and African forest buffaloes as well as Mishmi takins. The buffaloes would certainly be missed, though. At least, there are also African forest buffaloes at Berlin zoo.
Shame the buffalo won’t stay. Very impressive animals and very unrepresented. As far as I can see, the lions will receive the enclosures of barbary macaques and the ungulate species next to them (I can't remember which one this is right now).

Yes perhaps there will be space for Cape buffalo near the Savannah.
Let's really hope they'll find a place for at least one buffalo species (preferably African Buffalo, as long as the zoo keeps their African Forest Buffalo). I wouldn't like to see them both go.
