Disney's Animal Kingdom® Park News from Disney's Animal Kingdom

Was he their only bontebok?
He was unfortunately

Move to Gus's troop ou another facility?
Same troop as Gus and the two other older bachelors.

Sad to hear about Emma! As I mentioned back in March, according to the WDW Entertainment website she was not at the park anymore but various people on here have said not to trust it so I was optimistic about her. She lived a long life though, she was in her early 20s which is double the lifespan for Elds deer. When did Emma pass away? If it was either in March or before that the website was actually correct.
She passed in January. I don't trust any of Disney's official websites/socials, they like to treat DAK as a quasi zoo, releasing sporadic information that may or may not be accurate (Take for example their recent Instagram post about Gino's birthday which is actually in December.

As with the gorillas, I really think Corey and Flint moving to the bachelor troop is a bad choice. All three boys in the bachelor troop are elderly by now, all in their 30s or 40s. They have been together since the park opened in 1998 and the ruckus of two young males would be a big change to their lifestyle. It would be much better for Corey and Flint to have their own bachelor troop for now and they would rotate in and out with the other gorillas. After a while in a bachelor troop, males will find a family to take care of, which then would require Corey and Flint to move to other zoos.
I am thinking this is a temporary fix until the AZA finds appropriate facilities for them to go to. As of right now none of the bachelors have been on-show so we'll see what actually happens. It very well may be the keepers decide to rotate two bachelor troops.

Some more updates I forgot about:
-Ace (Ankoli cattle) also passed away earlier this year.
-The Asian Small Clawed Otters are off-show and Bruce (Paroon Shark Catfish) is temporarily in this habitat while his normal one is under refurb (Along with the entire trail).
-The Hawaiian Nene have been moved across the path to a previously unused exhibit (Come in past the turnstiles, turn right, first exhibit on the right) along with some fish (Unknown species, but possibly Florida Gar)
-The first exhibit in the Oasis section (Right in front of the turnstiles before you turn left or right) is back open and contains African and Roseate Spoonbills along with Rose-breasted Geese and Red-crested Pochards.
-Construction equipment is visible on the Safari and I believe new lights have been added so a return of the nightime Safaris could happen (Just a guess based on personal observation, no insider info)

Interesting... recently SSP is doing this, joint youngers males to olders one:
LA - Hasani and Jabari + HJ
Houston - Chaka and Ajari + Henry, TJ and Leom
Busch Gardens - Bolingo + Enzi and Oliver
San Diego - Maka, Mandazi and Ekuba + Denny
Saint Louis - Joe and Bakari + Zachary

I don't think it's temporary... There are several facilities with available space, and they could easily join the Busch Gardens Troop. This is the way the youngers get some guidance and the troop continue even without some original member.

She passed away at Disney 01/21.
That’s sad but she lived a good life. She was 50 almost 51 years old which is well above the life expectancy for hippos. Was she one of the 45 opening day animals at Animal Kingdom? In the article DAK posted for its 50th anniversary l, they only posted a couple of animals, and she was never posted but very well could have been an opening day animal.

Does anyone know that if Sid, the rhino iguana, now holds the record for the oldest living rhino iguana? The previous record-holder belonged to Rhino, another rhino iguana who lived at Australia Zoo for 25 years before passing away this year at the grand old age of 43. The average lifespan for a rhino iguana is around 20 years, and at over 40 years old, Sid has more than doubled his lifespan.

No, she arrived from the Central Florida Zoo in November 2003. And a slight correction, she was forty-eight years old when she died.

-The Oasis section of the park is now home to two Scaly-Sided Mergansers (1.1)

-Lioness Kinsey has been missing from the Safari the last several weeks and I believe she has unfortunately passed. There hasn't been confirmation from Disney, but I doubt there ever will be

-Cast Members have said Sumatran Tigers Conrad and Sohni are continuing to have meet and greets behind the scenes, but I am not sure to what extent this is happening

-I have not noticed any more construction equipment on the Safari so perhaps it was a soft refresh of certain elements

-The two Gibbons have been moved to the old Siamang exhibit. The Siamangs have been off show for several months now and I am not sure what the plan is with them or if they are even still at the park

I never knew the Siamangs were off exhibit for several months, they are still listed on the Disney website. Did you hear a reason that they were initially off exhibit? Or have they passed away? And if they do not return, what is expected to go in the white-cheeked gibbons’ former exhibit?

-Sad to hear about Kinsey, but she lived a good life. All the lions are well into their teens which is old for any species of cat. Who told you she died because there is no confirmation from Disney?

I haven't heard anything, but the Gibbon exhibit is now under refurbishment so that is why they moved. Perhaps once the refurb is done Siamangs will once again return? We will see.

I have not gotten any confirmation, but Cast Members are confirming there are only two lions now. It does not seem likely she would be transferred out after so many years and she was getting up there in age. As far as confirmation from Disney, don't expect any. They very rarely mention deaths or even transfers (Not a peep about Melosi, Anala or Jeda). Honolulu did not even mention that Anala came from DAK, only that she was transferred from a Florida facility. Same deal when Conrad was transferred from Kansas City.

Pure speculation but I always thought something like Rhesus Macaque or one of the Indian Langurs would fit the gibbon enclosure theme better than the Gibbons.

Did they always hold siamang, or did they once hold Lar?

No, those enclosures were clearly made with gibbons in mind. They're perfect for gibbon but don't have enough land space for really any other primate species.

You have clearly misread my post. I said they would fit better with the theme, not that those species would fit the actual design of the enclosure better. Ie abandoned ruin in an Indian village, where animals and people live in close quarters.

Based on what was recently announced at the Destination D23 event. It appears that Disney has new plans to completely change DinoLand USA into a new, South America inspired land; with “Encanto” and a “Indiana Jones” retheme of the current “DINOSAUR” attraction being considered for this reimagined land, as seen in the concept art below.

In addition, Disney also have plans to create a new show based on “Zootopia” to eventually replace “It’s Tough To Be a Bug!”, rather than an entire land as previously expected.
