Blackpool Zoo Blackpool Zoo News 2023

So glad to hear this news. I was gutted when Romon left as he was such an iconic animal but I'm so glad that there is finally a baby orangutan at Blackpool. Hopefully there will be more to follow in the future. I now hope that they will have a baby elephant but only time will tell.

At least Ramon has been successful at Munster, I also found out none of the elephants are pregnant right now but could they be throwing me off the scent?!…

Looking forward to going to Blackpool at some point with all the babies and new enclosures etc

From the BBC news website......

"A pelican has gone missing from a zoo after taking to the air when it was scared by a flock of gulls"

"It said the pelican was then "taken on a gust of wind" and keepers lost sight of it at about 16:00 BST as it headed towards South Shore"

14 weeks old

I visited on Friday i did think it was unusual how a pelican got on the roof as i thought they where clipped. Rhea are now in the Bongo enclosure. The Gorrilas have a new climbing frame outside but didnt see any of them make use of it and only came outside briefley for food.

The escaped pelican was recaptured at Hay-a-Park Gravel Pits in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, on the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd August. It is currently off-show, having had a health-check and it has also had its wings clipped. It will be quarantined before rejoining the flock.

Information comes from the Blackpool Zoo's Facebook page.

Watched Animal Park on Rusty's move from Longleat to Blackpool Zoo which went really well
Yeah I visited in late July and he seemed to be doing great! He was exploring his enclosure which seemed new to him. Despite keeping his distance from Alyona, it seems from all accounts that the pair are getting on well. This is bittersweet for me as, as a frequent Blackpool zoo visitor I remember Zambar and the sadness surrounding his death.

Details on Bornean orangutan birth:

Blackpool Zoo sees birth of first orangutan for 20 years

The infant is a male and was born June 14.

1.0 Unnamed (14/06/2023) Kawan x Jingga

The orangutan house has been closed to the public to allow the mother and son to bond and will reopen to visitors on 1 July.
I saw him in late July, playing with his mother and later sleeping. I know it's been a while now since the baby was a born, does anyone have any info on his name?

The good news just keeps coming!!

Happy Birthday to red panda Alina!

Not only are we celebrating her 4th birthday, but also two very special early birthday presents. We are absolutely thrilled to announce the arrival of not one but two adorable endangered red panda cubs!
The cubs have been sexed as two females, named Akashi and Tashi, the latter being a very common name among red pandas! :p

A vicuna has also been born for the second year in a row, sex not yet announced.

1.0 Hartmann's mountain zebra Fernando moved to Marwell and 1.1 arrived from Marwell. Fernando has sired four foals successfully at Blackpool, the new male is two year old Kendi and the new female is four year old Damara. Leaving Blackpool with 1.2 (Kendi, Damara and Wakanda)
