North American Komodo Dragon Population

Going to start working on a population list for Komodo Dragons. If anyone can help out it'd be much appreciated

I feel like somebody wanting to create a population list should FIRST come to the table with the bulk of the info or at least be prepared to do the leg-work to find it (rather than depending on others to do it for them).

Creating a population list is a lot of work. Some have taken months to compile, but it’s no chore if the list concerns a species of interest to you.

As an example, I (somebody who knows nothing about the North American Komodo dragon population) managed to find out in 20 seconds that the Smithsonian National Zoo have two males named Murphy and Onyx. From here I’d search online for further details and if that yielded nothing, email the zoo to ask their DOB and confirm these holdings were current (websites can be outdated). If I still didn’t have the answers (not every facility will reply), I’d list them in a draft (along with other incomplete holdings) and invite people to fill in the blanks.

Yes, I would say that someone wanting to make a population list needs to show all of the information regarding most, if not all the animals in North America, which will likely require lots of internet research and/or contacting zoos.

I tried creating a Nile Hippo population thread for Europe that I gave up after over three months working on it! It sure is a lot of work to do a population list.

Population lists are quite the project to take on. I have made several, but many of them are not updated. (Due to me not having as much time to update them all.)

However, I was able to find information on many facilities' holdings while I was sitting here:
(I'm not sure if these are all up-to-date, but it at least gives you a solid starting point.)

I can send more information later.

The Memphis Zoo keeps 3 adults in their exhibit called the Dragons Lair and 2 more juveniles in the next-door exhibit called Herpetarium. I know the link I shared is quite old but it is the one link/way of knowing the names of the zoo's komodos. The komodos at the zoo now could be different now than what is stated in the article but I have no way of knowing.
