Zoo Knoxville announces Tahan has arrived to breed with female Batari. Tahan's littermate Tanvir was sent in his place to the Tulsa Zoo.

Excited about this! Tahan is a proven breeder and its about time Knoxville had some cubs! They have an amazing facility built for breeding and its a shame they haven't been able to use it!
 
January 2023 Update:

Summary of Events:
We had one litter of cubs born in 2022 - 0.3 cubs born at Little Rock Zoo to first-time parents, "Jaya" and "Asmara". The cubs ("Kae", "Sundari", and "Zoya") are a valuable addition to the population since the population has been struggling in recent years.

1.1 individuals passed away this year, an elderly male and a really young female:
  • 2-year-old, "Mawar", at Sunset Zoo passed away on April 4th, 2022. Her death is very unfortunate as she was a valuable young breeding female but she does leave behind two littermates and several other relatives.
  • 17-year-old, "Gahara", at Tulsa Zoo was euthanized on October 26th, 2022. He leaves behind three offspring, 2 grand-offspring, and numerous other relatives.
Several tigers were transferred this year (5.5), and almost all of these were for breeding purposes:
  • 8-year-old, "Batari", was transferred from San Diego Zoo to Zoo Knoxville on January 12th, 2022 for breeding purposes.
  • 11-year-old, "Jaya", was transferred from Jacksonville Zoo to Little Rock Zoo on February 10th, 2022 for breeding purposes.
  • 13-year-old, "Bashir", was transferred from Zoo Knoxville to Jacksonville Zoo on February 23rd, 2022 for breeding purposes.
  • 6-year-old, "Zero", was transferred from the Virginia Zoo to the Cincinnati Zoo on April 27, 2022.
  • 2-year-old, "Cahaya", was transferred from the Palm Beach Zoo to the Virginia Zoo on May 20, 2022 for breeding purposes.
  • 5-year-old, "Batari", was transferred from the Cincinnati Zoo to the Tulsa Zoo on May 22, 2022 for breeding purposes.
  • 14-year-old, "Jin", was transferred from the Tulsa Zoo to the Cincinnati Zoo on May 25, 2022.
  • 2-year-old, "Indrah", was transferred from Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to Sunset Zoo in September/October 2022 for breeding purposes.
  • 13-year-old, "Tahan", was transferred from Tulsa Zoo to Zoo Knoxville in November/December 2022 for breeding purposes.
  • 13-year-old, "Tanvir", was transferred from Zoo Knoxville to Tulsa Zoo in November/December 2022 for breeding purposes.

Jacksonville - As noted by @Elena in the Jacksonville thread, 0.1 Cinta is pregnant and due with two or more cubs any day now. This is Cinta’s second litter and her mate, Bashir’s first!

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens on Instagram: "We are elated to share that our Malayan tiger, Cinta, is pregnant! A successful voluntary ultrasound confirmed she is expecting at least two cubs. With the tiger gestation period being approximately three to four months long, and Cinta being about three months along, we anticipate she will give birth soon. Cinta arrived from Cincinnati Zoo in 2017. This will be her second litter, but her first at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. Bashir, father of the cubs, is a first-time dad! He joined the Zoo in 2022 through the Species Survival Plan (SSP), a group of professionals within the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) that make recommendations to ensure a healthy, genetically diverse and demographically varied population. Our Animal Care Specialists and Veterinary staff are closely monitoring Cinta’s appetite, weight, body condition and behavior to ensure a calm and healthy pregnancy and birth. Staff take great safety precautions to complete these checkups. Throughout her pregnancy, she has remained curious, playful and active, such as exploring her nest box and enjoying her favorite toys. Just like human pregnancies, however, there are potential risks. We are cautiously optimistic and look forward to sharing updates throughout this exciting journey. Tigers play a critical role in their natural habitat by balancing and maintaining a thriving ecosystem. Unfortunately, there are estimated to be fewer than 150 Malayan tigers left in the wild. This pregnancy is a significant addition to the sustainability of the Critically Endangered species, and we are proud of our contribution to ensuring a viable and diverse Malayan tiger population!"

*Very* nice news, especially considering both are older animals, and fairly genetically valuable (particularly the male). Fingers crossed her remaining pregnancy is uneventful, and birth and rearing go well for both mother and cubs!
 
Cinta at Jacksonville Zoo gave birth to 3 cubs on November 5.

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens on Instagram: "Introducing our newest Malayan tiger ambassadors! Cinta gave birth to THREE cubs on Sunday, November 5. The few days after birth are critical as the little family adjusts. Cinta has been very attentive to her babies, grooming and allowing the cubs to nurse, so we are giving them space while they get settled in and bond privately behind the scenes. Our Animal Care staff continue to monitor them to ensure they are eating, sleeping and cuddling as they should Just like with humans, there are potential risks.
