I visited for the first time on Sunday (Ewa’s Birthday) and had the same issues of the wolves being at the back all day regardless of what enclosure she was in. Perhaps it’s something they plan to do once the other enclosures are built but don't currently practice?

I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely go back when Diego arrives. One of the unique standout things I noticed was every single member of staff was welcoming and looked genuinely happy which really enhanced the visit with a positive atmosphere. Really nice collection with a lot of potential for the future.

The only thing I felt didn’t work the best was the layout of the 4 current Tundra enclosures. On the map the layout of the enclosures is perfect as each enclosure has some sort of viewing opportunity. In reality the view point looks out over the backstage housing for the polar bear with a distant view of the “main” wolf enclosure. I think it would have worked better having the polar bear housing off to the side somewhere as opposed to dead ahead of main view point for the tundra. Then the wolves could have been brought forward to closer replicate the map. (With more planning raceways to connect the main three enclosures could have been put under the main view point area to make rotation even easier)

This project, along with Peak, YWP & HWP is just fantastic. I can’t help but think of all the polar bears I’ve seen in N American zoos in concrete cave pits, as well as Mercedes at Edinburgh.
I love the big open pond exhibits and the fact that Jimmys will allow woodland access is just so forward thinking and exciting.

There's still one more zoo as well expected to have them within a year or two as well. Great time for the UK and Polar Bears.

Glad to see another polar bear holder but what is it with these basically unknown collections obtaining them? YWP didn't exist just over a decade ago, and I'd never heard of the other two collections.

I think its a case that these are the places that have the space to build enormous enclosures including ponds etc for the Bears. Formerly it was the urban zoos that kept Polar Bears, in traditional pits and rock/grotto type enclosures. That all changed when it became recognised that they needed more space and they were slowly phased out. This 'new wave' of Polar Bears, started by the Highland WP and then continued by YWP, seems to have come partially from surplus and even 'rescue' Polar bears from the Continent. Jimmy's Farm has gone from 'Pigs to Polar bears' in quite a short time too. The photos from there do show very large enclosures for their (single) bear. Fortunately its the new UK way of housing them.

Yep, it certainly seems we're going for a simple but effective approach.
