Animal Stereotypes That You Hate

Probably already mentioned 'Rats the size of Cats'.

Another one; 'breed' used instead of 'species'. 'Breed' is for domestics only but the two are quite often confused e,g. in the press.

I don’t think I am the first one to say that calling pigeons rats with wings is pretty rude. First of all it implies that rats are also bad. I understand that pigeons are being compared to cats due to them being unhygienic and a carrier of disease, but its not like they can help it when they are in a polluted city with ample nesting opportunities and little to no predators (all of which are a result of human activities.) I had people in Ankara look at me like I am a weirdo for letting pigeons roost on me while feeding them, as if I was dumping kibble and leftovers to sidewalks and parks to feed stray dogs or something. Pretty irritating.

I don't understand why people love butterflies but hate moths.
Some people dislike moths probably because some species end up ruining people’s clothes. Sadly I wouldn’t expect people to push the blame to all moth species instead of adding mesh netting to their windows.

About Elephants:
"all elephants have life span of 70 or 80 and even more", which usually leads to wrong judgement of elephant status after one died.
"elephant rapes rhino", some kind of casual, immature, unguided behavior should not become representative.
"elephant cannot tolerate coldness", some extreme guys once asked a zoo in Si Chuan to lock the Asian elephants indoors in Nov., when the daily average temperature is around 15 centigrade.

Stereotypes that I hate:
Snakes are Slimy
All Snakes and spiders will kill you instantly
Every type of Rodent is a dirty disease carrying ball of fur

Lions are the King of the Jungle. This is so wrong. Even Elvis made sure that his fans knew that Tigers are the kings of the Jungle.
I'm the king of the Jungle they call me the tiger man.

A bear's favorite food is honey. I'm sure real life bears would like it as it's food, but I haven't heard of a single zoo in history that has fed their bears honey.

Sunbears and black bears love honey. Don't know about sloth bears but Brown Bears certainly prefer salmon, insects, and berries over honey.

Honey is a popular choice as food enrichment for bears, and all species will generally enjoy some on occasion, even the Polar and the panda. I'm extremely surprised that you haven't heard of a zoo offering honey to a bear.

I don't know if this exactly a stereotype since only heard it twice from the same person but my primary school English teacher maintained the belief that tigers are cruel and evil, hunting for pleasure and torturing other creatures. Her source was the 2016 Jungle Book.
Never heard this about Tigers but I thought that Jaguar would kill for the fun of it, I don't know where I got that from

Like most stories or ideas in popular culture the enduring nature of Winnie the Pooh actually has some base in animal fact.

Of course people make it a ‘favourite food’ (though you could also go for marmalade sandwiches if you were a Paddington fan) but bears do eat honey.

There is some suggestion that Pooh might have been based on Winifred a bear at London zoo who enjoyed honey (but also liked condensed milk).

There are lots of zoos who give honey as a treat to bears.

Indeed here’s an article on the Hamerton zoo Syrian Brown bears enjoying a treat of honey (clearly not a main food as they wouldn’t be given it to excess etc but a popular training and treat one) which also makes the Pooh reference.

Meet the adorable brown bear siblings calling Hamerton Zoo home

Bears are not completely indiscriminate eaters (they don’t just like it because it’s ‘food’), they are omnivores and so still have their sweetness receptors, so sweet berries, hives of honey etc will be attractive.
