Animal Stereotypes That You Hate

This has probably been mentioned before, but I hate the recent trend of demonizing dolphins as a way of pushing back against shark stereotypes. Neither sharks nor dolphins are bloodthirsty or sadistic. It's not right to view animals through human morals. We may see some aspects of dolphin sexual behavior as comprising assault or kidnapping, but the animals don't view it that way. Unlike humans, animals do everything for a reason (which is part of why I oftentimes prefer their company over humans lol). Pushing human morals onto animals that cannot comprehend them only ever leads to the mass slaughter of those animals.

The British Antarctic Survey (Penguins - British Antarctic Survey) says that of the 18 different species of penguin, only the emperor and Adelie penguins make the Antarctic continent their true home.
"True home" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. For some reason they just decided not to count the other species - which DO breed in Antarctica.

I was going to say something similar yesterday in response to the hyenas/scavengers demonising thing. It's all well and good and valid but I feel like the pendulum sometimes swings a bit too far in the other direction of "uwu hyenas are precious little pupper babies and lions are big and evil". No animal is a saint and no animal is a demon, they're just animals

(Same principle for chimpanzees)

Let us all remember this.
Just because some animals are portrayed unfairly [like sharks or hyenas] does not mean we should do the same with more charismatic ones [like dolphins or lions]

1. Tigers can't climb trees, so when you encounter a tiger climb up a tree (Tigers can climb trees, they're just not very good at it. But then again, there is nothing you can do for when you encounter a tiger so.)
2. A gecko is extremely poisonous, when you touch it some time, you'll die (Referring to house gecko)
3. A porcupine can shoot it's quills like a grenade
5. Wild animals will attack for no reason
6. (Worst of all) Animals will start being man-eaters once they get the "taste of human blood" (Why do people think our blood is so special that an animal will get addicted to it)
7. (I almost forgot this one, but a quick read of this forum reminded me of this. Forget no.6 I hate this one the most) Wolves have pack containing scary and powerful alphas, timid betas and the cool and lone sigma. This is the worst one of them all. Wolf Pack isn't ruled by hate and power it runs through love and affection.
8. Cranes can't fly (I know, I was as surprised as you are)

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the “pandas are bad at s*x” trope absolutely needs to die. The fact that it’s hard to replicate their natural mating behavior in captivity has led to many people to believe they’re naturally bad at it—hence why they “deserve to go extinct”—which is absolutely not the case.

As a kid I always thought the porcupine one was a) true, and b) common knowledge. Now, I know better. As for the gecko one... well clearly some people aren't as bright as others, right?

There is not an emoticon to display my feelings when I read this... *facepalm* is the best I can do.

I went to the zoo with my little cousin and pointed out a crane saying " That's a crane, remember when we saw one fly?", a guy glared at me, looked at me and said " That's not a crane that's a Sarus (Same thing just more specific) and said It can't fly". Maybe it's a stereotype from where he comes from. I consider that a stereotype. But then he went to list out birds that cannot fly which included an Owl (I didn't list it because this isn't a stereotype its stupidity

Many Koreans show their misconceptions whenever they see a cinereous vulture in a zoo, saying, "What a big size! this size makes them to catch baby!" As you can see from that response, unfortunately, most Koreans cannot distinguish between eagle and vulture.

Both vulture and eagle are called "dok-su-ri"(독수리) in Korean, but this is wrong. The "dok-su-ri" is only referring to vultrue because dok-su-ri's "dok" is the Chinese character "禿" which means "bald-headed," so the eagle should be called just "su-ri."(수리)

And the name "dok-su-ri" is also the Korean standard name for cinereous vulture. This adds to the confusion of visitors who don't know much about animals. So, even today, countless Koreans are making cinereous vultures into monstrous flying baby-eaters, unaware that they are true scavengers.

The cinereous vulture is my favorite bird. Every winter, the huge numbers cinereous vulture of mongolia fly to the Korean Peninsula in for the winter. And unfortunately some of them are injured and enter zoos, so almost all Korean zoos are keeping cinereous vulture. But nevertheless, it's a pity that Koreans don't understand this marvelous and majestic, the largest birds of prey of East Asia at all.

One of the worst IMO. The real problem, replicating natural 'lek' behaviour with several males, not the single pairs always supplied by China, has been consistently ignored in favour of the other story. Ridiculous.
