What new enclosures will be opening in 2024
- Wildlands reconstructs the Nortica Hafen area and opens a new enclosure for harbour seals. In the Netherlands
I noticed that I failed the mention that the Wild Horse enclosure renovation is in Prague. Apologies to anyone who may have confused it for taking place in Hellabrunn. A cringeworthy mistake on my part.As far as I know there’s also the macaque+otter+babirusa enclosure at TP Berlin and, if renovations count, the Przewalskis wild horse enclosure along with the renovation of Dschungelwelt in Hellabrunn.
I haven't heard much from the French zoos yet, but normally there will be something exciting going on there too![]()
As @lintworm mentionned there was not a lot of communication about new exhibits in France for next and I am not sure it will be a great year for them but some greetings are already known :
Zoo de Mulhouse - Horizon Afrique
The most important investment in the zoo history is opening next year and is focussed on Africa with a dry african plain for giraffes, ostriches, antelopes... a tropical greenhouse for pygmy hippos and crocodiles + islanfs for L'Hoest and Roloway monkeys + lots of small species in the buildings.

Zoo de la Flèche - African savannah
Another big project for this year is on Africa with the creation of a 1 hectare african savannah for giraffes, ostriches, zebras and antelopes. This exhibit is a major addition for the zoo as the giraffes will leave their original historic and poor enclosure. This is part of a 5 years master plan which started this year with the new enclosures for lions and cheetahs.
The master plan is detailled here : La fleche zoo [Zoo de la Flèche]
Zoodyssee - French Guyana area first phase
After some delays in the planning and building works the zoo must open the first part of a brand new area focussed on French Guyana. In 2024 the visitors will be able to watch non temperated animals (which was a speciality of the park) such as giant anteaters, sloths, tamanduas, bush dogs, white-faced sakis, tamarins, parrots and snakes.

Zoo de la Boissiere du Doré - Amur leopards breeding station
The Zoo, now known for his large carnivores enclosures (2 hectares for lions, 2,2 hectares for brown bears, 3 hectares for sumatran tigers), will create a 8 000 square meters breeding station for the endangered Amur leopards (new species) on the location of old enclosures.
Zoo de la Palmyre - Sumatran tigers area
One of the most old fashion french zoo continues his renovations. One of the first part of the zoo is being rebuilt for sumatran tigers, asian small-clawed otters, african penguins (already in this area before) and new aviaries (for which species ???). Don't expect too much about this but there are notable advances with the destruction of the horrible jaguars exhibit (the species left) and the use of the former bears pits that will enlarge the space for the animals.
Parc Animalier de Sainte Croix - White-tailed sea-eagles aviary and new farm
In 2024 the park will creat a new 700 square meters and 8 meters high aviary for a pair of white-tailed sea-eagles. The park will work with Les Aigles du Léman for this project (who created a breeding program for reintroduction in the Léman area). Two birds from the late will arrived to Sainte-Croix to mate and start breeding. After a first clutch the pair will return to Les Aigles du Léman to continue to breed. The chicks are due to be released as soon as possible.
Another new exhibit is the creation of a 1,5 hectare farm for domestic animals.

Worth mentionning that after a great year Beauval will do very few (even the new tropical greenhouse entrance should have been delayed). You could just expect something new in the former coatis exhibit (who left for the giant south american aviary) and in the former sunda gharials nursery in the tropical dome.
Nothing new for animals except a refurbishement of the giraffes'enclosure and the pathway alongside. Thanks, no plans known for Doué or are they saving for their Asian plans?
In the Netherlands:
Another news for Branfere : a new research and walkthrough aviary is under construction. No more info unfortunately.New additions and corrections for France :
Branfere :
Arrival of Javan langurs (new species) and new or refurbished enclosure for the red pandas. The marine space is refurbished too but don't know how (the harbour seals must have left as I have indicated some months ago so maybe the Humboldt penguins will have the whole area).
