Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2024

I've seen quite a few photos on Facebook groups so I assume they are with the group as normal
Don't shout so early ..., where is the proof that her father was / is a purebred? Who from the breeding program or zoo confirmed that Alice is a pure-bred verus (no one has publicly or professionally done so as yet).

Alice's father was wild born Boris, so we know he is a purebred male. On the other hand, her mother (Florin) was captive born at Colwyn Bay. Florin's father (Joey) was wildborn too but her mother's origins are relatively unknown - all that's referenced in the records is she was supposedly born in 1965 at Welinboro.

Sorry, I was tired at this point: The issue is the dam Florin at Colwyn Bay, she is a known hybrid.

According to @Babyrousa in the Dublin thread, it seems that Asian elephant bull Aung Bo will be leaving Chester for Dublin in the Spring.

If this goes to plan I assume we may see a new bull elephant at Chester by the end of the year? It will be sad to see Aung Bo go but he has definitely left an impact at Chester. :)

Hopefully Sundara is already pregnant but it'll be nice to see a new bull arrive. Fingers crossed everything works out

Hiw sad but what an amazing age, Chester should be so proud of themselves for giving her such an amazing quality of life over the years
I remember Martha when she first arrived with a male partner Kimbu. They lived in the old Monkey House at first. Barbara Harrison donated several young orangutans to UK zoos, including Edinburgh and later, Bristol. Also to places like Hamburg in Germany. This was in the days before there was any rehabilitation process for babies that came in to human care, which I believe she was later also involved with setting up.

I noticed that Inca the new female Jaguar has a shaved patch on her front paw , I assume it’s from a routine procedure and there is nothing amiss
She was off show on Monday
Iblis the male Lion is apparently 21 years old , he still looks fit and healthy

Visited yesterday.

I'm sure there was a Snowy Owl next to the Cheetah?
There's a sign up saying "nobody home, keep your eyes peeled for someone joining us soon".

I've seen that sign. If you did see a Snowy Owl, it will be the first time they've been at the zoo since 2010.

Sorry, going through pictures now, and it were Spectacled or Wood owls according to the pictures from last July, next to the Cheetah.
