-In the Mouse House, the entire left wall in the diurnal hall is now dedicated to Black-and-Rufous Giant Sengi.
If the zoo’s current population somehow takes up more room onto the opposite wall, they might as well rename it the “Sengi House”. :p

But in all seriousness, how many sengis does the zoo have now? Last time I checked, they had six individuals. But clearly, it sounds like that number has grown significantly since the population list was last updated.

I only saw 4 individuals on-show. The enclosures are connected and each display makes up 2-3 enclosures each.

Some updates from my visit on Sunday:
-There are now Gouldian Finches in the 4th exhibit f the World of Birds
-The Red Panda is (unfortunately) still in one of the Mouse House cages. The exhibit is being ‘baby-proofed’
-As I mentioned in 2023 news thread, one of the smaller tanks containing Mudskippers finished construction. All the species (Banded Archerfish (Toxotes jaculatrix), Spotted Scat (Scatophagus argus), Mono (Monodactylus argenteus), Green Pufferfish (Dichotomyctere fluviatilis), and Atlantic Mudskupper (Periophthalmus barbarus)) have returned.
-Across the way, the exhibit containing Roti Island Snake-Necked Turtles and Sailfin lizards is once again empty
-Not an update but I saw the Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rat in Jungleworld for the first time
-Despite all signage for the DeBrazza’s Monkey being removed during closures in the past 2 years, Angolan Colobus Monkeys are still signed for the Mandrill/Red River Hog exhibit. Is this an error or will they actually inhabit the exhibit (nothing was on display during my visit due to the weather.)
-The corner Turtle exhibit in the World of Reptiles has returned with Indian Roofed Turtle, Cochin Box Turtle, Roti Island Snake-Necked Turtle
-Several exhibits on the left side of the nocturnal wing of the Mouse House were unfortunately empty
-The Great-Horned Owls have disappeared from the Birds of Prey as they “Spend the winter indoors where it’s warmer.” They live in the New York area year round and we’re out in January when the temperature was in the teens
-There is an unsigned Lesser? Scaup in the Sea Bird Aviary
-Also not an update but the Sambar Deer were in the field, viewable from the Bronx River Parkway (lucky place to get stuck in traffic ;))
Aquatic Bird House Updates
-African Pygmy Goose are gone from the Guam Kingfisher exhibit, the Cotton Pygmy Geese remain.
-There is at least one unsigned Sunbittern mixed in with the Scarlet Ibis
-There was an unsigned Tufted Duck mixed in with Smew and Red-Crested Turaco
-The North Island Brown Kiwi exhibit received a minor update, removing/moving some minor props in the exhibit to make viewing the Kiwi much easier
-The African Pygmy Falcon have returned

The only aviaries that had that message during my visit were the white-faced owl and King Vulture aviaries. The Great Horned Owl was in one of the aviaries that now holds another species (I forget if it was the Golden Eagle or one of the Snowy Owl aviaries) and is simply not being displayed here at the moment.

The Lesser Scaup is signed in the SeaBird Aviary.

It's always been there! Just have to get lucky to see it. I would say for me it's 50/50 whether or not I see it. I got very lucky on Tuesday and went to the Mouse House close to opening and got to see them with the lights on!

-The Roti Island Snake-necked Turtles and Sailfin lizard have once again gone back on display
-The Silver Leaf Langurs were off exhibit. I was unfortunately not able to find out the reason, however some Mandarin Ducks were perching on some of their branches
-The food and shopping services in Asia Plaza have reopened
-The path by the Pheasant Aviaries has reopened, however the aviaries remain empty (I didn’t walk by due to a large puddle cause by rain the day of my visit.)
-The Fly River Turtle is back on exhibit in the World of Reptiles
-The African Spoonbill exhibit has reopened in the ABH, with netting for a new species however I was unable to spot any
-I searched every aviary and couldn’t find any sign of the Great Horned Owl. The exhibit it was in during my visit in January and was closed in March is now occupied by a Snowy Owl.
-Work is wrapping up for the Animal Chronicles attraction which will open next Saturday (the 20th) the exhibit appears to follow the same route as Dinosaur Safari taking visitors near Cope Lake and the former Rare Animal Range. I’m personally excited for this (along with the events this summer) as it finally puts spotlight on the zoo and conservation, something many events the zoo has ran in recent years hasn’t done (to be fair what makes money makes money.)
-The exit ramp to the second floor of the WoB seems to be done, however the up ramp still has some work to be done
-The zoo map hasn’t been updated since last year and the monorail opening date is listed as April 29th on the map. The Monorail reopens April 27th this year and the 29th was the opening date last year.

Updates from a visit yesterday:

-The grey mouse lemur enclosure in Madagascar is now empty with no signs of use, and the sign for them has been turned off. The zoo is down to one elderly individual, which looks like it will spend the remainder of its days off exhibit. A tough blow to this species' public display in North America
-Several months ago, the zoo relocated male lion Bahati to another facility. The remaining residents are his brothers Ime and Thulani
-Red panda habitat remains closed, with no sign on any visible work being done. I wish the zoo would let patrons know that the panda is still visible in the Mouse House holding pens across from the entrance to the butterfly garden
-Was told by a bird keeper that World of Birds' second floor is due to open again "very soon." Exciting stuff!
-The Asia plaza's rennovations are essentially complete, with the food stands seeing a bit of a face lift and the gift shop moved across the path to the site of an old stage/presentation area. The new gift shop area is beautiful, and is one of two locations in the park where you can buy the new 125th Anniversary gear. It's really great, with lots of obscure animals for geeks like us ZC users :p:

Wow. I genuinely hope to revisit the Bronx Zoo later this year with my dad sometime. That T-Shirt for the 125th Anniversary of the Bronx Zoo is nothing but outstanding in terms of t-shirts for WCS Members!

I forgot to mention this merchandize! Brought a hoodie and 550 piece jigsaw puzzle with that design and would’ve gotten the Water Bottle if I had enough cash!

Piece of Late 2023 News/2 Pieces of Early 2024 News Not Mentioned:

On October 12th, it was mentioned that the zoo acquired (0.0.2+) African pygmy geese, (0.0.2+) Andean geese, (0.0.2+) Argentine ruddy ducks, and (0.0.2+) Indian pygmy geese from the Buttonwood Park Zoo in Massachusetts*.

On February 2nd, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (1.0) snow leopard named MJ to the Blank Park Zoo in Iowa in December 2023.

Few Updates from Saturday’s visit.
-The Pheasant aviaries are almost done, and it appears a small artificial stream will run through the aviaries, a nice kinetic touch.
-The Red Panda have moved back to their Himalayan Highlands exhibit
-A rare monorail update as the Brown-Antlered/Eld’s Deer now have a new home with the Sambar Deer, Hog Deer, and Nilgai on the Monorail
-The White-Naped Cranes and Black-Faced Ibises are nesting
-Animal Chronicles is officially open. While the only live animals are the resident Dalmatian Pelicans of Cope Lake (although they do sign a bunch of common wild animals such as Herons, Mallards, and Turtles,) it did a great job of highlighting the work of the WCS and the Bronx Zoo. I truly wish I could bring everyone in the all zoos are bad crowd here.

Speaking of, my dad's planning to renew the membership for the Bronx Zoo membership. I plan to come back to the zoo sometime in early May since I'll be bringing in a friend from my high school by that time just to make the trip all the more memorable since I'm a huge animal lover who wants to let him see the animals as such.

(Me and my family have been longtime members for the zoo ever since I was a little kid.)

-Was told by a bird keeper that World of Birds' second floor is due to open again "very soon." Exciting stuff!

Question: Is this the only notable exhibit closure currently in effect? Has anyone heard of an estimate on when they plan on reopening the 2nd level? I plan on visiting this zoo in June.
