Zoo de Granby Zoo de Granby news

On April 17th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) Amur leopard named Megan passed away at age 19 due to advanced kidney failure.

Such a shame, last week I saw that the zoo had an old Amur leopard in the NA Population thread and now she is gone. Rest in peace. Just like Lucas the jaguar at Toronto Zoo, the day before he died, I asked questions about him and after 1 day, he passed. It is too sudden.

Today the zoo announced that their 5-year-old male mandrill Kouma will leave for Calgary Zoo, they did the last checkup for the mandrill before he leave. He will be forming a new group at Calgary zoo with a female already there.

Also there is a Former Zoo Granby animal thread, so it is posted there for Jita pregnancy. All births or death or transfer of former Zoo granby animals will be documented there. Thank you

Today the zoo announced that their new mandrill and colobus monkey exhibit is almost done. They finished the rock structure and the cascade. The final things are the plants and the net on top of the exhibit. It will be fully opened in Summer 2024. The animal will be there in the end of spring. The two species will not be together at the same time. They will have a turn for each species. The exhibit looks beautiful, it is like the one for the Japanese macaque. The exhibit is better than the indoor exhibit which is very small.

I think so because in this article the zoo wants to breed them but they say maybe the females are too old but they are trying. They want a group of dholes. Une nouvelle espèce très attendue arrive au Zoo de Granby
I think - yet do not know for sure - that this is more than likely and the main consideration for the EAZA/EEP Dhole to provide unrelated individuals for this new group in Quebec, Canada. I would assume that Granby Zoo will become part of the EAZA/EEP for the species (or may already be part of it ...).

Interesting - I did not realize European programs were branched out into North American facilities. I apologize if this is beyond the scope of the Granby thread, but are these inter-continental additions to European or North American programs common? Are any other Canadian facilities (such as Granby) involved in European programs for other species?

On May 2, Mom Elsa gave birth to 2.1 snow leopard cub. Such amazing news, Jita, the daughter of Elsa at Toronto, gave birth to 2 cubs last week. 5 babies snow leopards in a month. Incredible for the Snow leopard SSP. Finger crossed for red panda babies

Elsa's cub are officially viewable but I suppose in the indoor habitat because many people sent photo of them inside.

After a little bit of searching, I think this might be it. Shimo actually came from Assaboine Park Zoo. He is a male. He was born in Calgary Zoo on July 21, 2018(comments) Are you sure that he came from Japan?

I used google translate which translated one of the sentences to "Recently, we received a brand new resident, a magnificent saro male from Japan named SHIMO!" I believe I got that confused with Shimo actually being from Japan than it just saying "we received a new Japanese serow named Shimo". The Assiniboine Park & Zoo reference is probably true.
