Glad to see the Indigo bunting group is being grown. I assume the fiddlers are all West African? Since the Mudflats fiddlers are quite rare

Yes all W-African. There are likely no mudflat fiddlers anymore in the Mangrove according to a zoo guide.
That's a shame. Hope they find a way to get a type of American fiddler crab in the Mangrove.
I know it's as good as impossible in terms of availability, but wouldn't it be awesome if they would be able to get Minuca burgersi for the Mangrove?

Burgers' Zoo will be an official voting location for the European parliament elections this Thursday.
Voters can cast their vote next to the penguin enclosure, voters can park for free.
The ticket scan area will be temporarily moved back, probably near the shop.

I will vote for the manatees. They are defentivly more trustworty then any politician I have ever seen
Some small updates from today:
One of the blue-winged kookaburra left for Zoo Landau, leaving one bird in the old pheasantry.
The nearby scissor-billed starlings also had their breeding cavities removed, the birds are still there though.
In the Desert the first roadrunner chick of the year can be seen, which is quite unique given they normally just breed them behind the scenes..
New signage in the Mangrove should help with IDing some of the invertebrates though the new hermit crabs aren't signed.

And for those who would like to speculate, these old animal signs appear in the tiny exhibition that Burgers' Zoo celebrates 100 years in Arnhem:
The zoo will have its official Arnhem centennial at July 24th.
The works on the elephant enclosure still haven't been completed, but with the rumoured arrival of the 2 Belfast cows in (late?) summer, it shouldn't take too long...

I don't think these specific signs are an accident, but I also don't think they mean anything and are actually more of a practical joke

Speaking of signing I saw the shop sold the animal info signs again (remakes of originals) and also got 'official' Burgers Zoo pins!
A new male giraffe has arrived, it is a 7 year old animal from Gaiazoo. Burgers' was without a breeding male for ~ 1 year. Gaiazoo will receive a new bull from Wildlands soon.

- In the pheasantry the final Sumatran laughingthrush and blue-winged kookaburra are gone.
- The group of Waldrapp ibis in the vulture aviary has also left.
- The Desert is a good place to visit bird-wise with loads of activity. I saw a very fresh Montezuma quail chick and apparently the common ground doves that arrived a few months ago have already bred too...

Also visiting today. I noticed multiple desert terrariums are empty (kangaroo rat, milk snake and toad), all have signs explaining the animals are temporarily off-exhibit due to work around the enclosures, the Colorado river toads have a sign that the enclosure will be prepared for a new species, and have presumably left the zoo.
I also didn't manage to see the Nile tilapia today (about to check again), which is usual, but I did see a lot of small fish in this are that aren't usually there (presumably these are just guppies). Might be a sign the last tilapias died and the guppies have been placed there as cleaners/decoration?

More additional news: some decorational wooden poles have been placed along the path of the future new elephant area
The new "forest creek" playground isn't finish yet, there are some more structures being built on the other side of the path
As Lintworm mentioned, the Desert is real hotspot for bird activity right now, with the American goldfinches, Ground-doves and Rose-bellied buntings being very showy right now.
I didn't see the Giant hermit crabs today, which is odd since they really stood out last time.
The tortoises are still restricted to the back-most area of the former lynx enclosure, they placed some extra branches to hide the fence better, which means it's now basically impossible to see them.
Now, this might be a case of the ol' "I-haven't-been-in-BZ-in-a-while syndrome", but I'm pretty sure there's new netting on the canyon aviary.
Also: weren't there plans to place Star tortoises in one of the Asian water monitor habitats? I believe this was mentioned a while back, but they're still not here

That has been the case since April
and was posted back then, though the (temporary) removal of the Colorado river toads is somewhat more recent That is going to be a very exciting toilet block
That was indeed mentioned in the April Ziezoo, but it already said "te zijner tijd", so in due course, which means it could also be next year
.And for the lovers of permits, the zoo has filed the first paperwork to demolish the "verzorgingscentrum" and replace it with a new one, this is the behind the scenes building with the animal kitchen, quarantine, (animal food) storage and the vet facilities. This is one of the oldest buildings in the park (about 50 years old). The current application doesn't contain any details, that will come in the next stage.

The Colorado river toads are back on display, the other 3 tunnel exhibits are still being refurbished, though the left kangaroo rat enclosure looks nearly finished.
The Socorro pigeons in the canyon aviary have 2 chicks and there were some relatively freshly-fledged violaceous euphonia in the Mangrove.
In the Ocean there is now a second blue-spotted stingray again. The zoo has a long history of breeding these, including the world first breeding. But in recent times they only had 1 on show.
On a personal note, I saw a house gecko near the bats in the Bush-Desert tunnel, which means I have now finally seen all free-roaming vertebrates in Bush, Desert & Mangrove.
