Bird Paradise Bird Paradise news 2024

Sadly just 1.0 left. The rest have died. I do hope they will rebuild the Roller collection.
I pray they bring back the

Rufous Crowned (Coracias naevius)
European (Coracias garrulus)
Lilac-Breasted (Coracias caudatus)
Broad-Billed (Eurystomus glacurus)

rollers to bring back the African Waterfall Aviary days.

Yes the area directly below the feeding area is meant for wattled crane

The saddlebill pair is currently in the fenced area opposite the feeding platform. A similar fenced area is currently being built near the usual saddlebill “enclosure”.

Are the saddlebills and wattled cranes more aggressive than other storks/cranes that necessitate the need of a fenced area?

Unsure abt the saddlebills but Gru was the one responsible for the death of Zola (Shoebill) and another black-crowned crane

The Saddelbill pair are quite territorial.

A very costly mistake for the avian team. I wonder why they felt comfortable mixing Gru with the Shoebill pair when this combo was never tested at Jurong.

after today's visit,
  • I didn't see any Northern Carmine Bee-eater , be there around 1pm and 4pm, only saw one European Bee-eater, anyone knows what happened?
  • In Mysterious Papua, the information board of Lesser Bird of Paradise has been put there. I asked one staff, she said it is already released in the aviary, I didn't see it in holding cage, of course, also was not able to spot it.
  • Saw one wild Lesser Dog-faced Fruit Bat (Cynopterus brachyotis) in Heart of Africa, seems more and more local wildlife are moving

I saw the male Lesser BOP in the holding cage and it is more active today. Is that a female Lesser BOP in the neighbouring cage?

3 Red-tailed Black Cockatoos now take residence in the former Common Green Magpie exhibit at Winged Sanctuary

Oh, the Blue-winged Kookaburra is now in Lory Loft. Apparently, the Metallic Starling was harassing them. Also, there is now a turaco in the Village Weaver aviary in Winged Sanctuary.

I saw that fella there a couple visits ago, no wonder he was missing from Mysterious Papua. I'll investigate what turaco species is at Winged Sanctuary.

How many Blue-winged Kookaburras are there? I just saw one at Mysterious Papua yesterday, was quite surprised to see it as I haven’t seen them for a while.

There are 5 Blue-winged Kookaburras at the park, so they are present in both Mysterious Papua and Lory Loft.

The Green Magpie pair is still in the collection, but unsure of where they have been relocated to.

The Guinea Turaco at Winged Sanctuary is probably the one hatched at the BRC recently.

A new group of Nyasa Lovebirds arrived recently and should go on display soon (if not already).
