According to Zootierliste, as of last year, they had 7. That is if I interpreted the info correctly
Not necessarily a leaked studbook. It’s information attached to permits submitted by zoos or other entities from the regulations.gov website. It’s publicly accesible and just looked it up, it appears to be a permit re-issue to Fish and Wildlife Services.

Apologies if this has been discussed at any point relatively recently, but does anyone know if there is still a Kagu in the World of Birds? I was floored when I read last year that the Zoo had one in their collection, but alas, I have not visited in the last year.
That said, I am planning on visiting tomorrow. If there is anything anyone would like me to check up on, I can try and incorporate a given exhibit into my route or keep an eye out for a specific species.

Yes.
The last exhibit on the first floor - right side.
I believe that it is a male . No idea if they are planning to breed it.
I have seen it both times I have been there since it was first exhibited .
May need a few minutes patience but the New Caledonian is quite visible
Thanks so much for the confirmation. I arrived at the Zoo two hours later than expected, and my itinerary for the day—which started off with the World of Birds—had to be scrapped completely, but I was still able to run over and see the Kagu just before closing. He was right in plain sight when I showed up. A couple of kids were also there; they left pretty quickly, but not before the Kagu raised his crest at them. It seemed they'd gotten too close to the glass for his liking. I was honestly pleasantly surprised to see this—of course, I don't like that he felt bothered, but I'd thought the crest display was strictly an interspecific one and didn't expect to see it. Once the kids left, I had several quiet minutes with him, which was nice.
I spoke briefly to the keeper who was ushering guests out and locking up WoB for the evening and asked him a few questions about the Kagu. Because the exhibit wasn't part of his work zone—I learned that the exhibit is in the "N2" subdivision of the WoB, for anyone curious, haha—he didn't have answers for everything I asked (for instance, what institution the Kagu came from), but he did confirm that the male is the only Kagu in the Zoo's collection. He also said that the Zoo is actively searching for a female to pair with him, and that they may also send him out too if if they can't find one. I asked how long they would search before coming to that decision, but he didn't know. I wonder if this explains why the Kagu has been thrown into that seemingly haphazard mix of species he lives with, and why he still has no signage; maybe the Zoo itself is unsure how long they'll have him. I'd like to return sometime next month and talk to a keeper who oversees the exhibit to see if they can provide more information.
Aside: I hadn't been inside Jungleworld in at least two years, I think. The larger gharial specimens look fantastic—how long has the Zoo had them? Or are these simply those youngsters from years past all grown up? In any case, that final room is so much more characterful with them around! I remember when the Giant Gouramis were the most exciting things in there, haha.
I don't know if anyone has reported this yet but the pheasant aviary has reopened, but the aquatic bird house was closed down for repairs. In Jungleworld the baby tree kangaroo is still in it's pouch but is more out and viewable so you can see it and it definitely has grown with it having more fur on its body and it's eyes wide open. In the silvery lutung exhibit they had drained the pool for what i can assume is cleaning it, but the duck were still in the exhibit so who knows. finally not really news but i got this cute picture of a collared brown lemur and a ring tailed lemur cuddling together

Yes, I was just going to post I saw the pheasant avaries reopened and they were nicely planted. I look forward to seeing the capercaille again in its exhibit there. It might be easier to photograph in this exhibit, but sadly, my camera battery died yesterday before I could get a photo.

Not sure if this is true or not as it’s from the non humane rights but supposedly Happy the elephant has not been see in two weeks. And also something unbelievable that they talk about in this article is that the non humane rights supposedly sends people on the monorail daily to check on the elephants. Supposedly Happy’s been choosing not to go on exhibit. In a message from the zoo they did not state why she has all of a sudden been choosing not to go on exhibit. Also Happy and the zoos other elephant Patty usually switch off days being on exhibit and off exhibit.

Sending someone over daily to check up on Happy is not just ridiculous, but wouldn't also be supporting the zoo with admission and the extra money that a monorail ticket costs?
The article doesn't say that though - @Zoo-Lover-1-2-3 is misrepresenting the content of it.

No it does. At the start it says in the first paragraph “Happy the elephant, one of the Bronx Zoo’s top attractions, has not been seen by visitors for at least two weeks, according to the animal-advocacy group The Nonhuman Rights Project, which sends observers on daily monorail rides to eye the elephants.”

Yes sorry, I totally skimmed over that bit. The passage later in the article makes it sound like it is just whenever: "Courtney Fern, the Nonhuman Rights Project’s director of government relations and campaigns, told THE CITY that the group monitors the zoo’s elephants through staff members and supporters “who will go and ride the monorail and send us footage and report back what they saw,” and by monitoring social media posts from zoo visitors."
I very much doubt they are sending people daily on the monorail. I suspect the article is mixing statements.

Totally okay! We all make mistakes! But you are probably correct as it would be extremely costly to send people on the monorail daily which is an additional price on top of the already expensive zoo ticket.

Found an interesting find about part of the zoos elephant history! I’m not sure if I’m the only one who just figured this out but the Bronx Zoo has only had one elephant born in their history, a male calf who was named Astor. He sadly only lived two years. The most surprising thing for me is that his parents are Patti who still lives at the zoo and Groucho who currently lives at Denver Zoo!

When I did the monorail this week, we had downtime waiting for the other one to exit the launch port. Our tour guide asked if we had anyone had questions. Someone did ask where Happy the elephant was that day in which the tour guide said he was unsure, and he thought maybe she was in the back. I am unsure if they were one of these people who checked daily or just someone who read this recent article and was curious about it. A side note, if you ever get Justin as a tour guide, you're in for a fun treat. For anyone who has gone to a Disney park with the Jungle Cruise attraction, he's in comparison to a skipper with his puns/jokes!
Oh yeah Justin is an absolute blast. I no longer work at the zoo due to wanting to get ready for school but he's genuinely an amazing person who truly cares about the animals.
I spent yesterday reading all the signs at World of Birds and the Aquatic Bird House trying to find the kagu. I should have just checked this post! That exhibit I may have mis looked all the signs because I got distracted by the female cock-of-the-rock. I'll definitely look on my visit later this month.
Speaking of World of Birds, a mesh barrier is up (again?) on the first exhibit with the bee eaters. I was so glad to have seen it when it was open air - maybe it will return that way?
