Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Cleveland Zoo past animals/memories...

I am a long-time Clevelander and am curious about the Cleveland Zoo and its past. Specifically, I have a couple questions about my memories of the zoo (ca. 2006).

1. What exhibits do you remember being along the boardwalk that ran from behind the lorikeet aviary to the old (pre-African Elephant Crossing) elephant exhibit at one time or another? I remember double-crested cassowary mixed with Bruijn's pademelon (I want to say there was a third species in that exhibit- some sort of wallaby?- but can't remember exactly), pygmy and Nile hippos, Matschie's tree kangaroos, Kirk's dik-dik, warthogs, Malayan tapirs, etc. I can't remember what else was there.

2. What species were in Northern Trek that no longer are there? I remember white-lipped deer and have vague memories of either seeing or hearing about a Kodiak bear that was up there?

Again, I was just a little kid at the time and would like these things clarified. Thanks much :)

Thank you, for posting this because I have pics of the pademelon but couldn't remember the species. I look through other pics because there was definitely another wallaby species in that area along with cassowary.
The first time I visited (2006) the pachy house had a pair of Malayan tapir, a Nile hippo, and warthogs. The pygmy hippo had just passed away.
I don't remember Matschies but Goodfellows were present.
Also recently saw a pic of a male white lipped deer and the other large yard had a crane species mixed with tufted deer. Also saw the six bear species they kept at Northern Trek

There were definitely both tree kangaroos- Goodfellow's in the koala building (GumLeaf Hideout) and Matschie's in an outdoor, glass-fronted exhibit along the boardwalk. I believe it was Red-crowned Crane (still up there) mixed with Tufted Deer.

Do you have any memories of past RainForest animals? Did you see tapirs in the RainForest when you visited? I know, originally, the tapirs were where the capybara and anteater are now and the current prehensile-tailed porcupine/sloth exhibit used to be anteater, but I don't know what else. I know there were tarsiers in the RainForest as well in the '90s, possibly later.

True. At least one Goodfellow's was shipped overseas to Europe from Cleveland.

The Baird's tapir had left before my first visit. Tarsiers were gone early 2000s. A friend of mine gave me a map/guide from that time frame and both species were listed as well as American croc (current gharial) and komodo dragon (can't remember where they were exhibited). I do remember a large callitrichid collection (at the time Cleveland held the largest primate collection in N.A. with over 30 species), clouded leopards and one of the last pacarana in the U.S.

I have a map/guide from 1992! Tarsiers and Baird's tapir were there and American croc, too (in current gharial). Are you sure it was Komodo dragon and not other monitor lizards? I know monitor lizards used to be where the porcupines are now in the "tropical rainstorm" habitat. And I believe the pacarana were in the prehensile-tailed porcupine/sloth/agouti (former anteater) exhibit on the upper level. Is that where you remember seeing the pacarana?

The komodo dragons were a temporary exhibit on the upper level. I also remember white crocodiles temporarily living in the tropical rainstorm.

Yes, the pacarana was in that exhibit. I thought the one I saw was early 2000s but could be 90s

I saw a home video from 2002 and one from earlier (do not remember the year) that had these animals in the exhibits described. I no longer can find the video though.

Question: Does anyone have any pictures of the stork, duiker, and bongo yards? I can't seem to find pictures of them anywhere. The only one I can find is one of a bongo, but not the exhibit itself.

That I'm not sure. @Baryonyx was the bongo one you found taken in 2003 by user Baldur? I PM'd you about this area of the zoo
