What does "ABILENE declined transfer" mean? It's in the notes for the transfer? Also wondering if it is a 2-year old female as the listing says, or a 4-year old female as you've described? In either case it would be lovely to have a second jaguar.
I think Abilene decided not to take the Jaguar maybe their facility is not adequate or not ready. I am not sure about that. Estrela the jaguar is indeed 4 years old. This studbook was from 2022, so that shows her as 2 years old. Estrela was born in 2019, which makes her 4 years old.

How many Jaguars does the Zoo have?

You can check the regulation.gov document that I sent here. There is all that information in there about the population.

Ah, good to know. Thank you. We will look forward to meeting Estrela when she arrives!

Hi! First, thanks for sharing the report. I always find them to be so interesting. And second, I didn't even know that we had a female koala available to loan to the San Diego Zoo! I thought we only had the father and son pair, after the mother passed away earlier this year. I'm so confused.
The animal transaction reports are very interesting indeed. Regarding the koala, it's possible the zoo owns it, but that it resides at another facility as mentioned in the report's opening paragraph. I have also been reviewing the zoo's USDA inspection reports and am surprised at the variety of species kept behind the scenes. The last full inspection was done in April (see attached file) and the zoo holds tamarins, marmosets, and even a wolf! Considering that approximately one-third of the zoo's enclosures are closed or underutilized, it would be great if some of these animals could start being exhibited.

I saw the link it says
Wild Boar and Gray Wolf
what does that mean does mean they have them?

Stuff of real scientific achievement were the Mountain yellow-legged frog tadpoles distribution across several wildlife management authorities, the introduction of 0.2 new ones for the breeding program and the vaccination program for HPAI for wild California condors (that killed 21 condors last year ....) and that 17 chicks hatched within their ex situ program!

"Loan to Dallas Zoo in Texas of 1.0 Southern tamandua. This transaction is an SSP breeding recommendation."

I may be mistaken, but I believe the male tamandua being loaned to the Dallas Zoo is the juvenile one destinated to Cincinnati Zoo earlier this year. When sold to Cincinnati, it was believed the individual was a female tamandua, but they are a male one. The Cincinnati doesn't need another male tamandua so it would make sense to send him to another zoo for breeding. If I'm wrong, then it may be the adult male tamandua the LA Zoo already had.

I believe you are correct. The juvenile was thought to be a female, and then...SURPRISE! It was a male, hence the change in location. He'll be a great addition to the Dallas Zoo. He's really a lovely guy with the best personality.

Does anyone know how old the grey wolf is or any other information about it also I would like to know if the zoo is planning to breed the 2 maned wolves they have?

Progress on the Trumpeter Swan Habitat on September 7th, Saturday, during the Heatwave.

The Water Mill Building is completed with its exterior, the pool has been remodeled, and fences are being placed in. Planting and Landscaping will follow.

An interesting note is the transfer of a male jaguar. I know Johar must be at least 15-16 years old, is she recommended to breed at that age? Or perhaps the one mentioned earlier in the thread about a female Estrella that was recommended to come to LA after Abilene declined her? o_O
