Zoo de Granby Zoo de Granby news

This is my first time making a tour video of the Zoo. I started off with the Afrika pavilion at the Zoo Granby. If you have any suggestions for improving my videos, I would greatly appreciate them.

Sadie the 8-year-old dhole has inflammatory bowel disease, the zoo knew this when she arrived from SD-WAP(San Diego Safari Park). The zoo decided to house her and her sisters together, the zoo will not separate them.

Also for those who are curious, the three Andean Condors at the Zoo are Son, Adélaïde and Sierra. I will be making a list of almost all animals at Zoo Granby in this thread. Granby Zoo Names [Zoo de Granby]

I used google translate which translated one of the sentences to "Recently, we received a brand new resident, a magnificent saro male from Japan named SHIMO!" I believe I got that confused with Shimo actually being from Japan than it just saying "we received a new Japanese serow named Shimo". The Assiniboine Park & Zoo reference is probably true.
I got a response from the Assiniboine zoo, Shimo indeed went to Zoo Granby and was from Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Here is the annual report of last year. There is some information not mentioned in this thread. The report is in French so it is harder to understand. Page 9 says the arrival at the zoo. That includes 1 male red panda(Maple, already announced), 2 male Japanese macaques (I do not remember seeing it announced), a female lion(Kamaria?, already announced) 4 female suricate, I think it is from Calgary, one male Japanese serow(Shimo, already announced). 0.0.20 Panamian frog. One female red-crowned crane, which is new to me, 2 grey cranes. 0.0.2 and 2 female wallaby.

Also for those wondering what happened to the Ruwenzori fruit bat. They are living behind scenes in the QUAM( private area for the ambassadors) There are also Egyptian bats living there.

The birds of prey live in the old camel house in the Village section. They have now an outdoor section for them. The birds of prey are likely the Night at the Zoo ambassadors.

Update on Zoo Granby elephant, Zoo Granby had plans to phase out this species a few years ago but they said they will be keeping them for the moment. The zoo said it depends on what the legislation is about. They do not know if their exhibit is big enough. They also say it will be the last elephants at the Zoo. Paul Gosselin said "Our objective is to breed endangered animals, we do not have polar bears because we chose to dedicate to exotic species. If this law is adopted, this law will need to be voted in the Senate, this fall before being presented in the House of Commons.
Sadly, one day there will not be elephants at Granby. For all these years, I have been visiting Zoo Granby and I like the elephants the most in each visit.
Le Zoo conserve ses éléphants... pour l’instant
Also this article from 2022, states that Sarah the elephant will not be leaving the zoo because of her age.

This was reported on Zoo Granby's Instagram. The zoo moved their 5 caimans to their indoor quarters. The indoor quarter seems to be in the Africa section. According to the video, we can see there is a long structure, which seems like that for the giraffes and a barn with hay bales. It looks like the Africa section. The American alligator might be moving inside of the summer home for the Spectacled Caiman.
Zoo de Granby on Instagram: "Changement de saison au Zoo! Que se passe-t-il entre 2 saisons chez les caïmans? Petite incursion dans le déménagement de cette espèce d’Amérique du Sud "

For anyone wondering why Miko the kinkajou was not on exhibit in the Cavern area. Well he was moved to the red panda exhibit. Then this winter, he is going to the Temple area in South America area at the Zoo. I do not know where he will be kept inside, all the exhibits are occupied unless they mix them or move them elsewhere. That explains why I did not see him or her on my visit.

Zoo Olomouc received a 3,5 years old Amur leopard female from de Granby few days ago. The name of the animal hasn´t been mentioned.

Proves that some countries can quite easily accomplish cross Atlantic animal exchanges! It seems Canada might have a more relaxed attitude to regular zoo animal transfers Intercontinental

-Some older news: In February 2023, they announced that they wanted to build a boardwalk in a forested area that let visitors view the nature, most likely to see wild animals. They wanted the project to be finished by the end of 2024. This is to be changed and doesn't seem to be put in place. I think this idea has been dropped.
Une vague de nouveautés à prévoir au Zoo de Granby
-Another project is to make the monorail newer because it has been in place since 1979. They refuse to dismantle this monorail. The attraction park area is supposed to get new equipment by 2027 or 2028.
-They also want to remake the Booshikë pool in the water park at the Zoo
Le Zoo de Granby veut de nouveaux manèges d’ici quatre ans

Brevard Zoo applied for the importation of Lua, the 4-year-old female jaguar from Zoo Granby.

There is also a recommendation to send Estrela the 4 year old female jaguar to Los Angeles Zoo from the Zoo Granby
Go to page 383 in that document
Seems like Estrela the jaguar has arrived at the Los Angeles Zoo. Mentionned in the Los Angeles Zoo December Animal Transaction
