As you may know the zoo had 3.2 individuals. The zoo originally had 1.2 (Manu the male and sister zoo D’Early and Sabu) D’Early had 4 children iirc. 1 DNS, 1 ‘Khari’ went to the Amsterdam Zoo and the other 2 ‘Diego’ and ‘Jafar’ are still with her. The other sister Sabu never bred and both females became infertile.
Manu is still fertile and was being “wasted” being with 2 infertile females. The family group (2.2) left for France and Manu is set to go to a different zoo as Twycross has no plans with them anymore from what I was told by some of the primate keepers.
This is the same with the Dusky Langurs. The current plan for the 1.1 related pair is to let the naturally phase out of the zoo unless Darci the female needs to go somewhere else for breeding. Again this is a shame as Twycross used to keep a large family group just a few years ago.
Other good news regarding primates at Twycross is the De Brazza’s Monkeys are hoped to breed soon. They brought in a male from Blackpool in 2022 called Marcus to breed with the younger females Zia and Chi. These 2 girls were both born at Twycross a few years ago.
The plan for the L’Hoests is to bring in a new male in the future (no set date yet) to breed with the 2 younger females Bikonzi and Tumba. Though this depends on the male Gemini who is around 20 years old. Gemini is the father to the females listed above.
