Hi everyone!

As you can tell I'm most certainly not a new member! Those who have been here for a while may remember that I was very active on this forum about 6 years ago and haven't been around at all for almost 5 years since around the start of covid.

I've lived in Norwich in the East of England for the last 2.5 years and in the last year or so I've been getting a lot of joy again from zoos and wildlife. I started lurking on the forums again a couple of weeks ago and I've decided that I want to re-engage with the zoonerd community!

So that's my long-winded way of saying that I'm planning to re-appear after half a decade!

Late last year I visited New York and got to visit all 6 NYC zoos. I also went on a short trip to Thailand where I got to see a few really fantastic species in the wild: a wild Sun Bear, Tentacled Snake (yes, seriously, in the wild!), and White-crowned Hornbill are probably highlights. This summer I had a work trip to visit Brown University in Rhode Island and UCSD in San Diego back in the US and I extended my stay to get a few zoo visits in, of course. I've also visited most of my local East Anglian Zoos, most recently a first visit to Colchester last weekend which was great and I hope to go back before too long. I've yet to visit Hamerton though and really must do soon!

I'll post a few pictures later, maybe tomorrow. As an aside, is there still no function to view the latest comments on images since migration to the new forum software or am I missing it? (Incidentally, calling it 'Media' makes me think of the stuff used to grow cells in a lab, but that's probably just me). I'm also very impressed at the new global scope of Zootierliste! It must have been a lot of work by those involved.

Anyway, I look forward to some interesting and enjoyable zoo and wildlife discussions.

Welcome back, and it is possible to see the five most recent media comments if you scroll to the bottom of any media page, below categories:

Great to see you back on here @LaughingDove , and I look forward to your contributions over the coming days and weeks :D

It may amuse you to hear that I recently revisited your old stomping grounds of Warsaw - on the fifth anniversary of the time I met up with you there, as a matter of fact!

Yeah, the functionality we lost in the 2016 update has still not been regained; however the next software update (coming at some point hopefully soonish, last we heard) is intended to add this functionality back.

Is it possible to see more than this? The equivalent of the recent/new posts and media?
There is an awkward work-around (I don't know if anyone could be bothered using it), but if you go to the Members tab at the top and then click on Recent Activity it shows all actions made by the members (so, all the posts, uploads, comments on photos, and also likes). I don't know how far back you can go - I kept clicking on the tab at the bottom saying something like "show older items" and went back as far as six hours.

You can just scroll down looking for photo comments.

Ah, excellent! I noticed they've acquired quite a few nice species in the intervening years, including banded pittas which I'd love to go back and see. I haven't been back in Poland since the December/Jan almost 5 years ago.

Fingers crossed:)

Okay, cool I guess that's something. If it didn't include likes (or could be made to exclude them) it might be quite a nice and usable feature.

Ya, the likes are a pain in there because you get people who just scroll through a single person's uploads liking every single one, apparently without even looking at them.

Welcome back! I was in Norwich this summer, I thought it was quite a nice city. It's a good area, I was only there for five days and saw lots of grey seals and some curious muntjacs. Of course checked out a zoo too, the lovely Thrigby Hall.

I look forward to your contributions to the UK forum again!

Thanks, I very frequently see muntjacs when cycling home from work, especially when it gets dark early.
