On April 19 five manul kittens were born and are being raised by their mother. The cats are under keeper surveillance.
The park has announced that one of the kittens have unfortunately passed away on May 22.
The other four kittens have grown up and starting from June 21st the zoo will display the kittens in two 1.5-hour intervals to the public.

The survival of the kittens is an impressive feat considering that their mother Azu herself was a hand-reared individual and their grandmother Polly is a founder to the Japanese population if Pallas cats. Azu’s parents unfortunately aren’t getting any younger so this litter is quite important.

Curious, where do you get all this info from?

Minor news regarding the shoebills: following 24 May, the male Bongo will be moved to African Wetlands exhibit while female Kashishi will stay in the current exhibit. The shoebills will be cohabitated later in the summer.
The zoo announced that the shoebills will be paired again starting this Friday, following some hormonal and behavioral surveys. The walkthrough exhibit doesn’t seem like it will be closed during the reintroduction of the shoebills.

Grey wolf Micheal was taken off display for treatment on October 14. Unfortunately he dies on October 20. Micheal was born in April 10 2010 in Higashiyama, making him 14 years old by the time he passed on. His younger brothers from another litter, Genki and Hikaru are still alive.

I wonder if they will be able to maintain Wolf Creek. The Rocky Valley area doesn’t seem to be in very good condition. The kingdom has only one American black bear, and it is necessary to quickly release the peccaries from that boring exhibit.
Personally I think something should be done about the puma enclosure. It it quite narrow.

Does anybody know where Kobe's pygmy marmosets came from?
I am not sure but prior the arrival of the marmosets there was a pet shop owner who got arrested for smuggling monkeys into Japan from Thailand. Among the species were pygmy marmosets. Chances are those monkeys ended up in Kobe. The seizure happened in Tokyo, which might raise the question why or how the monkeys ended up in Kobe, if they’re the animals from the seizure.
