News so far this year:
The zoo announced today, March 9th, 2024, that sometime in the near future, their 0.1 Red Panda "Bo" will be moving to a private AZA accredited facility and that they will acquire a new male Red Panda as a mate for the zoo's other Red Panda, 0.1 Natasha.

On February 28th, the zoo announced that their 0.1 Dexter cow "Ruthie" passed away the day prior at the age of 21 years.

As part of the city’s plan to bring more educational experiences to the Zoo, the next project is the “EDventures Campus.” It’ll consist of the “EDventure Pavilion,” an education building with an exhibition hall, and the “Animal Exploration Pavilion,” an interactive area for visitors that will also include an overhead animal passage and exhibits.

On February 15th, the zoo announced they received funding from the USDA to launch a new state-of-the-art compost system called "Big Hanna". The facility is currently raising funds for the installation and implementation of the compost system, as well as the renovation for their greenhouses.

On March 22nd, the zoo announced they reopened the Conservatory in the World of Reptiles Building to the public in the spring of 2023 due to renovations and a strain of EMCV (encephalomyocarditis virus), which caused some mammal deaths. They are currently holding the mammals off-exhibit due to ongoing renovations to their former exhibits. It was also announced that the zoo is planning on acquiring some new unspecified species of reptiles as well.

On May 9th, the zoo announced they acquired a (1.0) red panda named Sampson from the Indianapolis Zoo in Indiana which is now on exhibit.

The zoo has just released a $16.2 million, five-part master plan (including already opened Turtle Oasis exhibit) over the next ten years that notably includes the addition of Indian Rhinos, and live animal cameras!
